Well, that's a pretty good reason not to get a stadium-facing unit in Edition, or any building, really. Good lord.

I hope it's a test to see how bright it looks at night to turn it down? Maybe?

The full brightness is just for testing. It'll have different settings depending on the time of day and possibly even for the weather (full sun or overcast). But it's fun to know that the entire park can be lit from a single source of light. Haha.

I think they announced that it was going to go through a 24 hours stress test where the lights are on maximum and oscillating between colors. Regarding the Edition apartments, that park is designated for all sorts of Summer events (on top of Viking events) and even concerts etc. Those who don't realize that will be in for a surprise.

Backing up to that screen for a minute: the original proposal was for it to use a transparent mesh screen (like this, or maybe even actually this) that would make it look like the images were being displayed directly on the zinc surface of the "prow." That's not even remotely what they ended up installing. Those are plain ol' LED screens—albeit trapezoidal in final form.

Has anybody seen this up close yet? Looking at the images on the MediaMesh page, when that system is illuminated, it looks as though it is a solid screen, so I guess based on what I can see on the webcam it's hard to tell exactly what it is they installed.

But I'll agree that the initial renderings certainly suggested that it was going to be more integrated with the zinc panels.

Used the skyways to get as close as currently possible (east Wells tower is open to the parking ramp). Looks like a big LED screen to my, currently flashing solid colors. I was surprised to see the colors reflecting of the upper windows of the Juvenile Detention Center and the Armory windows.

If you use the Ryan Co Downtown East webcam and go back in time to the 18th or so (because it rained nonstop for a g.d. week) you can see that they're putting panels up in chunks on a prominent steel frame. I guess that *could* be MediaMesh, but I'm pretty sure it isn't.

Was it ever named as media mesh or was assumed?

They didn't use the MediaMesh name, but they used the media mesh phrase:
http://www.vikings.com/news/article-1/N ... 7c6b3fedec
The image of Adrian is actually just an example of what is possible in using the steel media mesh that will allow high resolution images or videos to be shown on the prow of the stadium for various events. The media board will display various logos (example, NCAA logo for a Final Four), pictures, and videos as fans approach the plaza, adding to the overall game day or event experience.

Media mesh was specifically mentioned in the original plans submitted to the city. Obviously a lot has changed since then, but it was the intention at some point.

This is just a straight up standard LED display. This is a pretty good bait and switch.

I would call it an upgrade over media mesh.

Hahaha bait and switch...... really????? It's a friggen video board. Design elements change during the process at times. It isn't like tehre hasn't been a ton of upgrades to the building during the process but yeah they were just hoping that nobody was going to notice that they promised media mesh and then switched to a standard board.

It is Minneapolis Moda... We are not used to "bait and switch" UPGRADES around here. Usually it's downgraded materials, etc. when changes occur.
