Re: Walgreens - (2650 Hennepin - Roat Osha/FirstTech)
Sale of FirstTech properties from Paul Dzubnar to the Heins moves forward: http://finance-commerce.com/2016/05/upt ... walgreens/ He turned $1.5MM into $2MM in just two years, though it is probably closer to break even after financing costs and ongoing expenses (taxes, utilities, etc)
Heins say that Roat Osha will continue operating for "some time". I'm guessing this means that Walgreens' lease doesn't run out for a while, but I would guess that this project will be under construction by next spring. Their approvals from the city are good for two years and the clock is now running.

The owner of Roat Osha also owns another Thai restaurant in Uptown (pretty sure it's Chang Mai). From a friend of mine who works at Roat Osha, their plan is to combine those two restaurants into one operation at Calhoun Square (who knows if it will happen) So I would suppose Roat Osha will stay open until the new location is ready.

They own Tum Rup Thai. But it might make sense for them to consolidate into the old Chang Mai location at Calhoun Square.

Didn't Chang Mai close a while ago?Nathan wrote:The owner of Roat Osha also owns another Thai restaurant in Uptown (pretty sure it's Chang Mai). Given what we know about the insane rents at Calhoun Square (and subsequent restaurant failures), I'd guess they'll just keep Tum Rup right where it is.
Re: Walgreens - (2650 Hennepin - Roat Osha/FirstTech)
He said in their staff meeting this week that the plan is to consolidate both restaurants into Calhoun Square. So take that as you wish.

Oh. You should have just said that
It's a good plan. The former Chiang Mai space is both bigger and better than Tum Rup. It should be successful, considering that essentially 3 thai restaurants would be consolidated into one (Chiang Mai, Tum Rup & Roat Osha).

Didn't i?twincitizen wrote:Oh. You should have just said that

Anyways 3 Thai restaurants becoming one hopefully opens the market for another better Thai restaurant in the area, not a huge fan of any of those.

Amazing Thailand is pretty good.
Re: Walgreens - (2650 Hennepin - Roat Osha/FirstTech)
Good specials for sure.
Thai food should be easy, flavorful, and affordable. There's no reason pad Thai you can get on the street for less than a dollar should coast 13 to 18 dollars.

Exactly. In most Asian countries eating fried rice and fried noodles is how you eat leftovers. Yes, you can find street vendors selling it but that's typically your drunk food!Nathan wrote:Good specials for sure.

Walgreens seeking 24 hour operation.

Maybe the City could enforce the previous condition of approval (primary entrance on the corner) before considering further licensing.

That corner entrance is really shitty. They'd have to reconstruct it to make it anything close to a primary entry. Which of course I would love but it's ain't gonna happen.

BTW, there's no ATM in the store which is the only reason I've gone in there since it opened and would probably have been the only reason I'd have gone in there. Not because I hate Walgreens and this building but because it's utterly forgettable. I keep forgetting it's there even though I live like two blocks away. It's much easier, mentally, to go to Cub.
