Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina
From the looks of the drawings it seems that there is much being proposed on the south lot that seems to create a horseshoe of single level retail with the opening of the U aimed towards the Bank of America outlet.
Along the Valley View Road at the west side it appears an 8 story residential tower and maybe one of the offices in the middle looks like it will have balconies ... so is that an office-to-residential conversion?

Southdale Area Development - Edina
Trying to squint at this I'm getting a better idea of what's envisioned. 10 years does seem like the length of time to get this all done.
Looks like the center office building that has Tavern of France attached will be demolished and a new building will be built further back from France Ave. This will open up access within the mega block linking the north parking to the south parking. It looks like a new multi story building will be built on the north parking lot. A new multi story building will be built on the Valley View side of the south parking lot and retail (probably cafes, restaurants, new home for Tavern on France?) will be built on the France Ave side of the south parking lot right up to the sidewalk of France Avenue.
There must be a lot of underground structure parking coming if all these surface parking lots are going to get developed, likely under each of the three new multi story buildings.

Here's hoping they don't actually call this development "The Promenade", considering that's the name of the bike/ped/park trail not far from here: http://edinamn.gov/index.php?section=Pa ... aPromenade

I don't think the city would let them use that name. Two blocks away is the beginning of the city's Promenade.

'Promenade On The Promenade'
I like it.
I like it.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina
Too many words. Not edgy enough for today's luxury apartments. Try "The Prom.", "Pr0men^de" or "Promenade^2"'Promenade On The Promenade'
I like it.

Better not lease any units to families of high-schoolers. Pretty soon you'd have Prom³.

I realize this is early, but it seems weird that they envision all the bulk along Valley View. The name is bizarre, even as a preliminary choice.

There's a whole lot of imaginary vegetation along/within France Ave itself. Median trees? LOL. Trees between the street and the sidewalk? LOL^2.
The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

Technically there are median trees: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.8791488 ... 312!8i6656
(NOTE: Actual trees may vary slightly from artist's depiction.)

Well, dang. I take back half my snark. I had assumed they only had those funky metal light trees in the median around there.

The Strib has this:
http://m.startribune.com/new-owner-of-e ... ection=%2F
"The project at 6600 France Av. S, across from the Southdale Center shopping mall, would consist of several new buildings, including a medical office building, two retail buildings, a residential tower and a hotel or office structure."

That's great. A placeholder name for sure, if not an outright mistake. The site was earlier referred to as "Gateway".
Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina
I saw that and thought it was a joke too. Now that I'm dying laughing I want it to stay. Let them have cake.

Profile on Southdale Center at 60-years-old.
http://www.startribune.com/southdale-at ... 397156191/
It had a heck of a lot of insight on future development around the megablock. It reported that the RH Gallery is headed for the southwest corner, with Restoration Hardware lease ending in Galleria in 2019, we'd likely see it popping up here in 2017–2018, right?
Also, something I hadn't read anywhere, the building on the edge of the grounds on 66th could become 375 units of luxury apartments. (I hope this means a better circulator road and entrances that line up with the street grid).
