The Cedar Cultural Center

Looks like The Cedar is looking for 3 million in state bonding to renovate. The drawing looks pretty cool, primary colors to relate to the Rapson Towers, lots of glass.

I'd support the Cedar getting any money, in fact anyone reading this right now should go to a concert there if they haven't yet. They're a non-profit and the staff are mostly volunteers, who work in exchange for tickets. The Cedar hosts such a wide variety of performers and events from just about everywhere, and currently have a music residency program focused on Somali music which is highly relevant to the neighborhood as well.

The building could certainly use an update. I've been going there since about as long as I can remember, and while they've made some improvements here and there, they need more than that. I doubt they'd be able to do so solely by donations and ticket sales (looking at their yearly report pretty much confirms this). The bathrooms are tiny too, their plea for upgrading to ADA compliance is legit.

They closed and then opened and closed again so many times before finally biting the dust that I'll believe this when I see it, haha. (Potentially) good news.

I think they had their hopes pinned on the bonding bill that didn't happen. Probably waiting until the legislature reconvenes in January.
