Grant, what agenda/meeting was that from? I don't see it under any of the recent TPW agendas.

No meeting. Just checking up on the 'Bicycling in Minneapolis' page on the cities website.

I'm excited for the connection between William Berry Parkway and Sheridan on Richfield Road. Accessing Sheridan from Lake Calhoun isn't easy right now.

That jumped out at me as particularly useful too (as did the spelling of "Sherdian").

Connecting the Parkway path to 54th on Bloomington makes sense too, although that starts with a pretty big hill. I'd like to see even a painted bike lane extend farther north too (obvs, this is just next year).

I hope they use the opportunity on 15th St downtown to do something better than the couple sharrows there right now. There are effectively bike lanes on the bridge (when they aren't parked up by idling buses) but the resulting merge at 5th can go wrong easily.

Agreed - I make a right from Portland to 15th to head over to Nicollet to pick my kid up from daycare fairly often and this is a really frustrating spot in the evening rush hour. Removing one side of parking to get a full 5' lane on each side would be nice (curb-to-curb is 40', so it'd be 8-5-10.5-10.5-5 with a little wiggle room).

What they should do is seal off the West 94 entrance so the cars don't back up along 15th. I ride down Portland every day and that area is always very backed up and it's a hassle for both cars and bikes on Portland. And then tear down 94 altogether. Only being a little facetious on both of these.

Here's a page for the St. Paul Capital City Bikeway: https://www.stpaul.gov/CapitalCityBikeway

(the URL currently expands to https://www.stpaul.gov/departments/publ ... ty-bikeway )

There's going to be an open house on the project at the Union Depot next Thursday, October 27, from 5:30 pm to 7 pm, with a brief presentation at 5:45 pm.

Near the bottom of the page there are several PDFs. The one for Appendix E includes conceptual designs with street layouts (though things may change) https://www.stpaul.gov/sites/default/fi ... %20v.1.pdf

This isn't specifically bike infrastructure, but I noticed there are new digital signs on the Seward side of Franklin Bridge that list the temperature as well as what looked like the total number of Nice Rides taken that day/that year. I didn't get a super close look. It might have had the time, too.

That's not just nice rides, that's all bikes that pass it.

Saw that when I went by this weekend, but it was not yet turned on. May take a detour on the way home to be counted.

I think this year I'm most impressed by all of the bike lanes built in St Paul in the last year, they're really starting to cover a lot of ground. And the downtown bike path will really be something once a full stretch or two gets finished.

Over in Minneapolis I was just riding on Minnehaha and am wondering why they couldn't upgrade the bike lanes from buffered to protected since it seems like there's room in the buffer to install the bollards that would designate it as "protected". Otherwise they're plenty wide and I didn't have to worry about the door zone.

IIRC, Hennepin County's stated reason was that they didn't have money set aside for protected bike lanes. The real reason was probably that they just didn't want to (Washington's protected lanes barely got approved).

St. Paul's bike lanes are great if you're in a couple neighborhoods (mostly the western Minneapolis-proximate ones) and marginal or nonexistent everywhere else. So yeah, some praise due, but lots more to be done. That's changing though (Payne Ave just got 'em!) and we're working to get more. :)

New bike lanes are in on 38th St E between Hiawatha and Minnehaha. Looking at them from the bus, they seemed uncomfortably narrow.

Has anyone who's ridden on them comment on your experience?

Think I rode them and thought they were fine. Beats the parallel stretch on 42nd, that's for sure.

18th Ave NE is getting a two-way cycletrack on the south side, from Monroe to Central to Johnson. http://minneapolismn.gov/www/groups/pub ... 149341.pdf

^It's nice, but it's really squeezed in there with those power lines. The 2' southernmost grass strip seems unnecessary; why not pave it to give people a little more room?

This is also going to create a nightmarish intersection at Johnson (an already terrible intersection).
Side note: could there be a city policy where design has to include all intersections, rather than stopping at the near side of them and ignoring them?

Not to mention stopping this 500 feet short of the quasi-MUP that rings the Quarry along 18th.
