Re: 50th & France - Edina/Minneapolis
1/2 is somehow infinitely more charming than the Dakota County upper/lower convention. It's funny that Lakeville went to replacing charming original names with the standardized grid, while cities that grew up on the grid want to cover over it with better "branded" names.
49th 1/2 >> Market St (Edina)
79th/80 >> American Blvd (Bloomington)
76th/77th >> International St (Richfield)
17th/18th (Ave) >> Richfield Pkwy (Richfield)
Xenia Ave >> Park Pl Blvd (SLP)
Natchez Ave >> Grand way (SLP)

City council approved a final design for the apartments and parking ramp redesign on Market St.

The renderings really look nice. This is going to be an awesome fit to 50th and France, IMO. Nice fit to the public walking alleyways.

The parking ramp is even designed to be repurposed as office space if/when we no longer need the parking space.

Doesn't look like a vibrant retail scene but not sure if that's their aim.

50th & France - Edina/Minneapolis
It’s all retail on the first floor; all mixed use (except one segment of existing North parking garage).
That video is (unintentionally) scary on several levels. It feels like you’re in a bus or SUV and are about to run over that poor woman and her child. Market Street feels very wide and the sidewalks feel narrow, but it could just be the rendition. And the animated people “walking in place” feels creepy. I guess it just costs more to have them actually move.
There are many things to like about this project, such as the public space, the pedestrian connections, the woonerf (is this the first suburban woonerf in the Twin Cities?). The ground level parking is definitely a compromise, but it’s only in the existing, relatively new parking structure; the parking extensions will have retail on their first floors, so that’s good.
I mostly don’t like the 3 lanes for such a short street, emphasizing car movement through the area, rather than slowing car movement in the area. Likewise, I haven’t seen anything suggesting a lower speed limit on Market street. And while bike parking is great, there are no bike lanes (separated or otherwise) on Market Street. The odd thing about 50th & France is that there is no street grid, so the only way to get there is from 50th or France, both dangerous roads for cyclists.

The North parking ramp expansion is finished—on time. Looks great, with 2 large 1st-story retail spaces.
