Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Looks like Panera is staying, I see their name on a sign in the rendering. At least from the pictures, it doesn't look like much of a park. Another awkward unused public space?
Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Park? Or plaza? Empty corporate plaza is right in the Minneapolis wheelhouse.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
That would be nice, my wife used to work for that Barnes & Noble several years ago and they had to have a security guard posted up top just to keep streetgoers from only coming in for the bathroom. But even that couldn't get everyone and the place always ended up atrocious at the end of the day.So, basically opening the Panera patio up rather than hiding it behind walls and gates when Panera closes up?
Man, this would be a perfect opportunity for the City and the Downtown Council to partner up on an actual public bathroom for downtown.

They already have the DID to monitor and clean it if they could build it... (would probably qualify for Mike Rowe's "Dirty Jobs" show).

They didn't "have to." They chose to.That would be nice, my wife used to work for that Barnes & Noble several years ago and they had to have a security guard posted up top just to keep streetgoers from only coming in for the bathroom.

Fair point. I don't particularly blame them for it though, the bathrooms were bad enough as it is with the guard hanging around. They didn't "have to." Anyone heard anything about the gateway fountain? I know it was off for a couple years in the early 2000s because of bad pipes. They seem to be working in the area now and it hasn't been turned on. Heard anything of a renovation or closure? Google didn't tell me.

Bobby and Steve's has been working on their illegal parking lot expans... cherished neighborhood amenity.
On a happier note, it looks like the vacant Scandia Furniture store next door is being replaced by a barber shop.

Walked by there the other day and was a bit confused. What exactly are the unfilled/dirt spaces? The layout really didn't look like a parking lot to me.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
I asked someone at B&S and they said it was to give the homeless people a place to congregate. No idea how serious she was but they do have a bit of a loitering issue there. Who knows.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
The Washington-facing portion, in the foreground, will be some sort of public plaza. The back part will be more parking for B&S.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
I had no idea there were two "Gateway Parks" in downtown Minneapolis.
Or at lest this dog park group says so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Are there more Gateway Parks around that @MPD6thPrecinct should be aware of?

That's my favorite park in all of Uptown.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.

The next DMNA meeting agenda has a few interesting tidbits:
-Aeon is proposing a 6-story, 100-unit (72 affordable) building with one level of underground parking (of course) at 920 3rd St. Presumably they've got a couple other lots they're assembling, since 920 3rd is one of the angled old RR ROW lots behind the old baseball museum building, and doesn't seem to have any direct street frontage.
-Work Zone Breweries is seeking a letter of support for a liquor license application. A quick google of the name reveals nothing except district court proceedings for some kind of fraud lawsuit. Encouraging!
-ESG is doing... something, and would like a letter of support.
-The apartments at 205 Park and the hotel at 800 Washington are still moving along, apparently.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Update to above: the mystery ESG thing is a redevelopment of the Thrivent "Corporate" Parking Lot. Wonder if that's the half-block adjacent to the building or the full block across the street?
The Work Zone Brewery item now has an address: 247 S. 10th Ave, which is that little building south of the Periscope P2 building with the curiously ornate courtyard.
Aeon has apparently pulled their presentation, but there will be an update on the Century Plaza redevelopment.
Meeting is tonight at 6. I'm going to try to make it, if I can figure out how to get into the building this time.

Huh. That building was on the market as a (interesting and expensive) home awhile back: http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhom ... 90#photo14The Work Zone Brewery item now has an address: 247 S. 10th Ave, which is that little building south of the Periscope P2 building with the curiously ornate courtyard.

Interesting. More background on the house here; originally built for the Cowles, who ran a little newspaper just down the street.

Ohhh Jeff Arundel's old house! What a cool place it was - glad it will be open to the public.
I'm curious to see how this ESG project works out on the Thrivent lot.
