The north leg of the switching wye connecting the Bass Lake Spur and MN&S Spur has a derail boot and out-of-service tag. From what I’ve been told construction on the new southerly wye will start this summer or definitely next year.

4/26/19 Construction Update

Interesting that rail will be delivered already starting May 13-14. Seems a little early to need the physical rails, without any grading or earthworking having been completed, but given the sheer length of the line, maybe they need to start deliveries ASAP to keep up when rails actually start getting put in the ground.

ETA: So this is really happening, huh?

Probably also want to make sure they've purchased the steel at its current price, and not what it could cost in a year or so.

Did anyone else notice the red line with no detour between Van White and Glenwood (in one of the files linked from Three Rivers' page about the closures)? That's making me kind of nervous.

On one of the three rivers maps they note all of the closures due to SWLRT (with a red line). The ones west of Bryn Mawr/Kenwood all have a planned detour but the section between Glenwood Ave and Van White Blvd is shown as closed but no detour is identified.

Second. Exhibit Trail–2

Cedar Lake detour in SLP and Kenilworth detour in Minneapolis. Wish there was a was to run the detour through that dead end office parking rather than zig zag so far out of the way through Minikahda Oaks. Knowing that Minneapolis killed the chance of linking France together, I still harbor a fantasy that the offices are bought, redeveloped, and 32nd connected to Park Glen with a new trail link through between Cedar Lake and Bass Lake Preserve's trails.

Fourth. Exhibit Trail–3a

I think this was included because it looks like the Bryant Ave bike boulevard will be a signed alternative route to downtown.
I hope Minneapolis is preparing Bryant Ave residents and drivers for this. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sixth. Exhibit Trail–5

Close up to the Bassett's Creek Valley Station area's trail detours and changes.

Looks like a detour over to Kenwood/Vineland/Loring Park is a main detour into downtown.

Click to view big. And notice the future split to the Cedar Lake Trail with one fork sliding over to he LRT station and another fork sliding over to the bottom of the Van White Memorial Blvd.

The continuous welded rail being delivered May 13th is for the TC&W's new track, not for light rail.

It might be easier for some to just take the bike lanes on Glenwood for a good chunk of this given that it's direct. I run from Downtown to my home at Theo Wirth often so I'm bummed by some of these closures. Vineland/Sculpture Garden works I trained for a Marathon through there last year, and it's a secret, but good connection. It's just not as well connected to Downtown and the Cedar Lake Trail from the river is inrreplacable and Hennepin Avenue isn't a great place to detour things to. With this said I'll probably run the detour or try it..but it's easier to jog through this city than bike. (I ran to work for 3 weeks and then returned to biking and remember feeling a tad bit of anxiety about having to deal with cars again.)

Glenwood will be closed over the trail/railroad tracks at the same time. The bridge needs to be reconstructed because a LRT crossing will be built into the middle of it. Hennepin will be under construction at the same time. I called my city council member (Fletcher) too find out more but there needs to be some sort of detour identified to make sure there are sufficient signs and, if needed, temporary connections established to get cyclists around this closure without needing to ride on Olson, under construction Hennepin, or wrong way (if headed westbound) on Lyndale near the farmers market.

Glenwood to the Farmers Market to Royalston over the tracks if that isn't closed as well. Otherwise just take the detour and grab LaSalle or Nicollet or etc.
