SLP council really likes the design of the tower.
And the article doesn't bother to tell us who designed it. (It's probably Ryan's in-house design staff, but still.) The article does let us know who's doing the traffic study, though.

Sorry, pet peeve.

Yes, it's designed by Ryan A+E. Which I just discovered is run by one of the Ryans.

Anyone know what's going in on the southwest corner of West End? Some banners said something about an arcade, gasthaus, and craft beers.

Looks like a more expensive version of UpDown. However, they do have KTV rooms. :P :P

Drove by the West End the other day and was surprised to see the new building going up here with really big blank walls facing 394. Is that the final design, or are they still going to cut windows out?

I drove by on Saturday and remember seeing all windows on that side.

Not a development related post, but Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal put out one of their Top (Blank) Lists. Looks like in their top software developer companies in the Twin Cities, two of the top three are located at West End.

The Ace Hotel is moving along nicely. That area is starting to feel quite dense.

Boom times at West End, but shopping district waits.

Walking down to the end of 16th, you can see all the new construction.

There has been occasional chatter and references to Olive Garden closing. Here is the city proposal page for Luxe Residential, 207 units, a “pocket park”, and pedestrian improvements.

Planning Commission approved the project on the Olive Garden site last night. Unanimous vote. City Council hearing on January 7.

Article in TCB on why West End struggles with retail (apparently too big to be an entertainment complex, too small to be a retail mecca): http://tcbmag.com/news/articles/2019/ma ... wrong-size

And struggles getting the proposed offices built. A lot of apartments are coming on very soon. I wonder if we see West End morph more towards a neighborhood retail for the new residences.

My understanding from reading through past proposals in the West End development is that the Saint Louis Park portion of the wider “West End” area is nearly at capacity for water (drinking, washing, flushing, showering, etc.)

Yeah, I could see a cvs or Walgreens go in as the neighborhood population increases.
