Oh I know, I just had a laugh at the unintended realism.

They also seemed to have moved Target Field and replaced part of Downtown with a nice forested neighborhood?

Someone get a picture of the foosball table inside the shelter in the SW corner before it goes!
If memory serves me correctly, this shelter is peripatetic. For a while, there was a pocket park next to the old Masonic Building on Hennepin, right where the new section of the Cowles Center is today. This shelter fronted it. The shelter made its move to the current location at the same time the Shubert made its move. I'm thinking the shelter's traveling days are done now, poor old thing.

That has to be one of the most expensive bus shelters ever built. It should be bronzed and relocated to the Northeast corner of the block where it can quietly wait for the streetcar. If the streetcar never arrives, it will serve as a nice memorial to ideas that never made it off the ground.

As I understand it, it was originally built as a streetcar shelter down by Lake Harriet, before being moved downtown.

A nice look back at how we got to today.

With a reminder about the 80-story flash in the pan. Whatever happened to that developer?

Based on Alex Duval's website (who made the 80 story proposal), it appears he has been some part of the design process of a couple large projects that were built, and renovated someone's condo, but hasn't developed anything nearly on the scale he proposed here.

Nice shot, Eric. Is there any date set for the official ground breaking? The latest renderings of the base of this tower are a significant improvement over the jumble in earlier renders. This won’t be a great addition to the cityscape, but it will be a good one. I only wish they could have warmed the finishes up a bit.

Demo of the bus shelter started this morning. They are also out with chainsaws this morning cutting down some of the large trees that were installed as part of the Nicollet remodel. Sad to see these go already. If the city was smart they would have moved these trees to the locations of others that died. This project better be required to match the concrete stenciling and large initial trees like they are removing today.

The more I look at the most recent renderings of this project, the more I think it will be a worthy addition to the skyline. No, it won’t be the best, but it won’t be the worst either. I appreciate the way the organization of the interior uses is well reflected in the exterior form of the building. The broad base contains areas of maximum public access, and while it seems unlikely the streetcar pathway will ever get used for that purpose, the curve of the podium is a nice transition leading the eye into Nicollet Mall from Washington, and opening the view from The Mall to the pathway to the river.
The wide plates of the office floors are discernible, and then the building steps back to the narrower floor plates of the hotel and finally to the condo spaces. It is not monolithic and it does stand as something of a gateway to the Mall and even more so, to Hennepin once tower across the street gets built.

The Pohlads are moving all of their companies into three floors of the building upon completion. (Locked) Looks like most of them are currently in RBC Plaza, but the United Properties office will be moving from their space in Gaviidae and NorthMarq will be moving up from Bloomington.

Kinda funny that they're building a building that looks very similar to RBC Plaza and using it to steal half of their tenants.

Don't they also have a number of subsidiaries such as their radio stations in the Ford Center which they redeveloped not that long ago?

And just like every new development in Minneapolis, the first step was to take out every tree  All those new trees along Nicollet...where that the set back was by far big enough not to damage. I wish they would have moved those to replace other dead trees, but they prob just cut them all out. Not as big of a deal here, because the trees were new, but every. single. development...even when there are 50 foot blvd trees...they immediately clear all. This is very much a Minneapolis thing, pretty much every other city I have been in, measures are taken to protect existing substantial blvd trees when there is a new development...even Chicago. Drives me nuts...but end rant, I am so happy to see this being built! What is going on with cancer survivors park?

The construction fencing in Cancer Survivors Park has been there for a while - I'm not sure if they're fixing the green roof, adding a new feature, or both.

The tent is for the barbeque picnic the building throws for its tenants every summer. I really miss working there sometimes.
