Tunnels!
Re: Tunnels!
Maybe Lindau Lane by the MOA?
Re: Tunnels!
I don't know where the dividing line between tunnel and lid is with respect to the Lowry Tunnel, but I think Lindau Lane would count, along with Target Field/ABC ramps.

Not over a freeway, but Loring Greenway.

And don't forget the Maka Ska to Lake of the Isles future land bridge! Reminds me a lot of the Minnehaha land bridge.

Re: Tunnels!
I like it. Except it looks like the development constricts the HCRRA right-of-way making it difficult to colocate the Midtown Greenway trail and a double-track light rail line.

Re: Tunnels!
A parkway connection under the greenway would be cheaper and do more for the area in terms of accessibility and park use.

Re: Tunnels!
So are their plans going to be to have every house have a garage with an entrance to these tunnels? Or only houses where the residents can afford to have their garage hooked up to a tunnel system?

Thank god someone has finally solved the problem of wealthy commuters having to see anything other than the inside of their McMansion and their office!Anondson wrote: ↑September 15th, 2018, 7:51 amBoring Company approved to build tunnels directly into SFH garages.

Elon gonna Elon. I don't hate the guy the way some do--if he stopped today, even if Tesla were to go under, he has greatly accelerated broader efforts towards electrification, and that's an unqualified good thing. But I wish there was a wider recognition that almost all of his side projects are (a) not founded in any sound background or expertise in transportation or urban planning, and (b) transparent attempts to sell more automobiles by ensuring the next generation of infrastructure is as car-centric as today's. It's no different from what GM did back in the day, propagandizing for urban freeways (Futurama!), and buying up bus and streetcar lines.

This kind of reminds me of the tunnel Homer used to go to work in the Stonecutters Simpson’s episode.

The Boring Company’s proof of concept tunnel has broken through the opposite end recently.

Re: Tunnels!
Not transportation tunnel, but the 10th Ave project will have a new water main tunnel bored under the river to replace the main that’s attached to the bridge currently.

It will be interesting to see how a TBM works in the heavily cemented caliche soil of Southern Nevada.

Re: Tunnels!
I know you're just repeating the headline, but the Boring Company is not the same as the Hyperloop.

Re: Tunnels!
Is there any evidence other than hot air from Elon that there's something different about Hyperloop?
Re: Tunnels!
The big idea about the Hyperloop is that it travels in an almost-vacuum at very high speeds across very long distances. It may well be just a pipe-dream, but aside from the fact that they both travel in tubes, it's a fundamentally different idea than the inta-city tunnels that this represents.

Re: Tunnels!
The only "hyperloop" thing that could ever be feasible would be sticking some kind of HSR or Maglev in a vacuum tube to eliminate air resistance (perhaps for only part of a journey).
And if he wants the boring company to be viable, it should be focusing on making tunnel boring for subways more affordable, instead of the silly 70s-style PRT proposal they started with.
They're both sorta silly, but in different ways.
