Define "immediate area." The 1,473 spaces in the C Ramp are less than a quarter mile away from the Foundry building. We assume that people will walk a half mile to transit all the time, maybe we should think about what it would mean if we occasionally asked drivers to walk a quarter mile from their cars to their destination.

Also, my (maybe wrong) understanding is that many of the new apartment projects (the Archive, 310 Lofts) with oversized garages will be providing public parking in them, like a couple of the buildings in Uptown do.

You're right about the proximity of the C Ramp -- I have to admit that's a blind spot on my part, but perhaps telling in that in all of the times I've visited this area, it's never once occurred to me that I would park there. But it feels very far removed from the core of the area bounded by Washington, Hennepin, the river, and the rail trench.

If the Hennepin Ramp didn't have a lot of it's parking chewed up by the Maverick, it would probably be totally adequate.

I'm skeptical that apartments will start providing public parking anytime soon.

I know Archive will have 1 floor dedicated to outside parking. The original intent was to have that space be used by the West Elm hotel across the street, but that developer has been running into some issues so who knows if/when that development will take off. I would assume the extra level will be used by the general public until any development across the street takes off.

There are times the ABC ramps hit capacity, in that there is significant spillover to the streets. Part of the issue is access/signage to the C ramp. While it isn't particularly far from the NL there is likely a mental barrier for some since it isn't immediately clear to an outsider where to access the monster structure.

That ramp used to have an overabundance of capacity, but I'm told that there is now a waitlist for monthly parking. They did raise rates recently, so that may open up some space.

This is a good point. I have lived here my entire life (35 years) and only just now realized I could access the C-ramp from North 2nd Ave.

The eastern side of North Loop is defying the odds and evolving into downtown's 21st century walkable retail district. It appears the tipping point has happened given the latest wave of development. Pretty cool to see after 20 years of waiting patiently ( along with my late friend Allen who predicted this would happen).

To the same location as the West Elm store? No. To the location this entire thread is about? Yes.

The existing contributing portion of the 121 N 1st Street building will be stabilized structurally, and moved off site temporarily to accommodate subterranean construction work for underground parking within the site. The client intends to use Jepson Inc. to stabilize and move the structure. Once subterranean work is complete, the 121 N 1st Street building will be returned to its original location and construction and rehabilitation above grade will proceed as planned.
That'll be fun to see. Wonder where they'll store it for that time? I can't imagine they'll want to move it further than necessary, maybe a parking lot somewhere in the North Loop?

I was just thinking about how much I love the design of Brunsfield, and they did that one too right? If/when I do a three story walkup, I want to try and scale down something like that design.
