Target Field Station (the Hotel) & Target Field Station (the Station)
Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Is the multi-story hotel in all of the renderings a definite part of the project at this point?

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Of course not, that would be something done entirely by the private sector. The county is setting the table with the ballpark, LRT, Interchange, etc. Time will tell if this is a viable site for a hotel.

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
If the large convention center hotel happens, I'd imagine it'd be quite some time after that before the market is ready for any significant expansion of hotel rooms downtown.

Why is that an LOL? without being able to read the article, seems like a good place to be for them...
Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
I don't understand the LOL either... If all the LRT lines connect at the Interchange, it would be the perfect spot for Metro Transit Police HQ.Why is that an LOL? without being able to read the article, seems like a good place to be for them...
Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
They already have free parking right next to the Northstar station and on the Cedar Lake trail, or at least they think they do.

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
I think the 3rd photo really demonstrates how badly they need to paint/camouflage the burner.
This is a borderline Lancestar-esque idea but what if they made it look like a series of fake buildings, sorta like the New York New York casino in Vegas?

I think that a more cheerful color scheme would be better instead. I like the banding, but brown on brown is sad.

Too bad Friedensreich Hundertwasser is dead. We could have him dress up our garbage burner like he did a power plant in Vienna.

The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

Minneapolis has a lot of cool murals. The garbage burner looks like a good blank canvas for a new one.

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
It's like our own version of Battersea Power Station. Maybe they should make it even more brutal, add some cannons, another smoke stack or two and razor wire.
Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Nice new renderings. I just don't see how they plan to make the plaza a draw for a gathering place other than on Twins game days. Seems odd to me - better places to focus on are Peavey Plaza and the new parks that hopefully get built in other areas of downtown. Does anyone know of any transportation hubs that have been successful in this respect?
Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
I still don't understand an 80 million dollar price tag for an elevated LRT station, some parking spots, and a small green space. How does this project equal a big transportation hub compared to what's already there?

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Because it's large and complex - not nearly as small or simple as you're implying.
Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
I would love to have someone in Minneapolis with the balls to get a world-renowned artist to do something to it... like the artist ROA or some local peopleMinneapolis has a lot of cool murals. The garbage burner looks like a good blank canvas for a new one.
Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Maybe they could do a replica of the mural we are loosing at Valspar
Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
The University of Pennsylvania wrapped a chilled water facility in perforated metal panels, which made what would have otherwise been an eyesore into almost a gateway for the city. Something similar around the burner could play off the wind veil in Target Plaza.
