The clock is in the render, also my favorite improvement of the project, NEW WINDOWS!

The tiny square windows with ugly louvers that are taking up space on the podium that should be glass are gone when this thing is done. :)

Also, is the glass penthouse looking creation on top all new construction? There's nothing up there right now is there?

Damn, from the sounds of that article this is THE place to live in Downtown. It just sounds crazy. How has there not been more publicity?

Also... any 3 bedrooms?

It's too bad they ripped out the classy 2nd and 3rd floor bank lobby during the many renovations of the building:

Does anyone know what the possible rental rates for this building will be? I could not find any specific information on that. Apparently they will have units ranging from around 500 SF studios to 1500 SF units.

I am just wondering if a rehab historical building will command higher rents then all of the new-build apartments nearby

I'd like to know too, because I've had my eye on this project since day 1 and I'd love to live there! But I'm pretty certain I'll be priced well out of the building (since we need at least 1,000 SF, and probably more with baby #2). Even with a (presumed) pay increase for moving back to the Twin Cities, I don't know how much I like the idea of tying up $1500+ for a RENTAL! I think that's one thing that will eventually slow down this apartment boom -- the fact that a $1500 monthly mortgage (PITI for example) would lend you a home valued over $300K that would be much nicer on most accounts than any rental (except for location and maybe amenities).

It does seem like the majority of projects are all new builds making $950 studios $1200-1500 1BRs and then the $1500+ 2br. Interested to wee what rental rate a reno building would command.

min-chi-cbus: your handle is quite fitting in this case- in columbus, village green owns/operates probably the three most expensive apartment complexes in the whole city. That does not bode well for the pricing...

Here are the prices at the Else Warehouse: Studio Alcove | $1075-$1340 mo.; One Bedroom | $1340-1800 mo.; Two Bedroom | $1815-2460 mo.; Three Bedroom | $3400-3500 mo.

Soo Line is arguably more unique (e.g. high-rise in CBD, will have penthouses, 24 hour doorman) so I'll guess their units rent for more.

It's like they're taking credit for the existance of the building though.....which seems fraud(y).

That picture makes me so happy. I can't wait to see the rest of those vents come down.

It made me happy just to stand there and watch it happen (also didn't hurt that it is so damn nice out). As I was standing there staring at it on the corner, an out of towner commented to me how cool of a building it was, and that it was nice to see so much working being done on it.

Standing on this corner used to feel like you were standing in the middle of no where, it was so dead. Now, with Nic on 5th behind me, and all the work on this place in front of me, it felt so damn lively. This area is going to be nice once it's finished in a couple years.

If I rented this would be high on my list too. It's amazing how a fairly simple detail like recreating those arched windows on the lower level weaves the whole building's historical character back together again.

Snapped a few more pictures today.

Good bye ugly louvers:
Image

This is looking up at the ceiling of the second level with Nic on 5th behind me, some of the old ceiling still exists!:
Image

In this old picture, you can see that ceiling middle right - the ceiling under the balacony.
Image

Not visible from the outside is how they are opening up the center, I think you'll be able to see the restored skylight from the main floor.

Last but not least, a little action pic of them hammering away some louvering:
