Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
Black! An all-black ice cream parlor would be so intense!!
Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
I live across the street from this project and have noticed that work has stopped (or greatly slowed down) over the past 2-3 weeks. Does anyone know what is going on with this?
Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
I bike by there a couple times a week for work - I'll stop to see if one of the construction guys knows anything. I'd love for this to open up soon.
Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
Good to hear. I did notice a couple of trucks on site this morning, so maybe they are back at it.It was a hive of activity about an hour ago.
Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
I had meant to check into this thread as well. I've run by this project a couple times and it looks further behind than I would have expected. I believe it's still basically just a cement structure surrounded by scaffolding. Does anyone know what the timetable is for this to open? You'd think they would have wanted to be open by summer.
Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
They have plenty of time, summer is still months away - it only stopped snowing two weeks ago. You'd think they would have wanted to be open by summer.
Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
They have (finally) begun to put some color on this thing. Just as it was shown in the rendering, the southern most rectangle portion of the building is painted white and the "smokestack" element is red. It will be interesting to see how the blue looks.

Hands down the most unique and fun project going up in Minneapolis. Will become an nationally recognized icon of our city and its urban culture.

Photo from Sunday. They say on their Facebook page they're shooting for an early July opening.
Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
Perhaps its just me, but does anyone else think this is a horribly ugly building? It cost a truly unique opportunity to do something special on that end of the park.

I'm with you. It's kind of the Le Car of downtown buildings. It's unique, but unique doesn't necessarily mean good. But then I've never been into ice cream enough to get that excited about it either.

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
I'm more interested in the building behind it, which I think could be an even more interesting work of art!
Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
This is probably one of the most beautiful factories ever made. And you can get ice cream at it. 'nough said. It's definitely a style that challenges general aesthetic, but I like it.
As an aside I'll throw in my favorite trivia, that the word aesthetic, originally meant "wakes you up." So yeah, I think this has a great aesthetic.
