You feel sympathy and empathy for your hostage takers!?! I still have disdain for my captors. I'm being facetious of course, but the liquor laws here are are bummer.I have stockholm syndrome from MN's blue liquor laws, so I'm always really shocked at how open other states are to liquor purchase/consumption that isn't specifically in a liquor store or bar.

You don't have sympathy for the MLBA? People want to pressure their membership into opening on Sundays! That's rough.

They have that in Cleveland too! On Friday nights (afternoons) hippy dorks come flocking in for some wine tasting and they just sit in the middle of the aisles and talk about nonsense. I hate Fridays at Whole Foods, but the point is that even here you can walk around with your drink (apparently without even attempting to shop) and the beer and wine selection is AWESOME!Ha!
Personal anecdote: I got trapped in a torrential downpour while walking around Chicago, so I dashed into a Whole Foods and drank a few beers while waiting for the storm to subside. They had several beers on tap, wine, TVs, etc. It was like a mini pub right inside the grocery store. You could actually order a drink and walk around the store with it while you shop. I have stockholm syndrome from MN's blue liquor laws, so I'm always really shocked at how open other states are to liquor purchase/consumption that isn't specifically in a liquor store or bar.

The webcam is back up and running again for this project. If anyone else cares besides me. You can somewhat see the work starting on Velo as well.

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
What neighborhood would you say this building is in? Is it the North Loop or is it Downtown...Google Maps says The Gateway District but the 222 website says North Loop. I'm new to the area and just trying to understand the different neighborhoods, it seems like people use the terms interchangeably and I've never heard any of my MN friends say The Gateway. Would love to hear your opinions...Thanks!
Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
Good question! It's a little bit confusing. So much so that there is a whole Wikipedia Page all about it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neighborho ... inneapolis
It get's a little mushy. Generally DT is called Central Mpls, Then it has the neighborhoods like North Loop, Central Business District (CBD), Elliot Park, Loring Park, and Downtown East (DTE). Then there are districts within that like Warehouse, Gateway, Mill City etc etc...
I think technically, and ya'll correct me if I'm wrong, but 222 is in the section of the Gateway District that is in The Northloop that is in Central Minneapolis (or more generally) Downtown.
*And even the city's website has some discrepancy, so yeah... a little wishy washy...

Wow - that was an informative answer! Thanks a bunch! The North Loop kind of reminds me of NY's Lower East Side, kind of changing boundaries with each new development that goes up around it with a bunch of new restaurants. Thanks Again!
Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
If you're excited about the North Loop, check out the neighborhood plans and such... Most of the neighborhoods have Small Area Plans, which are pretty interesting.

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
Does anyone have pictures of the progress on 222? It's supposed to open in a month or so, so it should look close to done by now.
Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
I was walking around it Yesterday, They are putting the masonry up on the Northernmost Tower, essentially all that's left after is the southern tower, and balconies, they were hoisting appliances into the units etc etc... Seems like a lot to do in Whole Foods if they are going to open in a month...

Opening date for the Whole Foods is set for September 25. It will have a liquor store store component as well.
Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
I know 222 had pretty mixed reviews coming into construction. Now that the building is close to completion, have any of you changed your mind on the project?

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
Not the best, not the worst. The whole foods will add value to the area (Cited... http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/m ... e-add.html ), but it could definitely have a better street facade, patios, match the brick-based warehouse district architecture more, etc.
I think the saving grace is the corner tower(s). Those will probably look very nice when complete.

The whole premise reminds me of Block E without skyway connections. Hope it fares better. I'm basically talking about the cheap facade.
Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
How is it anything like Block E? Not sure I understand the connection.

I don't hate it like some, I think it will look better once the tower is done, which it looked like they started today.

Here is a view taken on Saturday Evening:

I tried to do a little mini panorama to capture the area to the right, but it didn't turn out well. And my phone isn't fancy-shmancy enough to do it, either.
