Stress relief

Postby mulad » June 6th, 2013, 11:24 pm

I thought I'd make a thread where people can post something fun to help defuse the tense standoffs we've been having on occasion. Post something funny or entertaining, but ideally unlikely to offend anyone -- cat videos, an insightful comic strip, etc. I recommend limiting posts to once or twice a week (there's stress in just keeping up with all the chatter on this site).

Unless a mod decides this is a terrible idea. We'll see.

I think we can all agree that Southwest Corridor needs a daredevil jump.

Also I've been diving into Great British Railway Journeys lately, I find the episodes to be very relaxing and interesting as a train nerd but also interesting to learn more about Britain. It looks like there are quite a few episodes on Youtube already but they're also pretty easy to find if you know where to look. Here's the intro:

You'll of course need to watch the first one, but the second is probably my favorite:

Also, going out to take pictures today.

Totes. No more worries about co-location.

Animated version of Patton Oswalt's filibuster in a Parks and Recreation episode from a while back.

This isn't worth its own thread, but I thought is was worth sharing.

The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

I appreciate the sentiment, but the quote is credited to "Mayor of Bogota"? Presumably Enrique Peñalosa was too hard to spell? Maybe they didn't know how to make a ñ in MS Paint? Somehow I don't think we'd see a John Norquist quote credited to Mayor of Milwaukee.

Meh. I was much more impressed with the MIT guys who got auto-generated academic papers accepted at conferences.

I was thinking, "this isn't very funny," but then this part produced a legitimate belly laugh:
I move on to the next isle and ask the nearest Whole Foods clerk for help. He's wearing a visor inside and as if that weren't douchey enough, it has one word on it in all caps. Yup, NAMASTE. I ask him where I can find whole wheat bread. He chuckles at me "Oh, we keep the poison in aisle 7." Based solely on the attitudes of people sporting namaste paraphernalia today, I'd think it was Sanskrit for "go fuck yourself."

Not really sure where else to throw this, but I just finished my first music video, for local band El Le Faunt & His Traveling Circus. They described themselves to me once as "neo-vaudeville-nightmare-folk," and their singer sounds a little like Tom Waits. If that sounds like your cup of tea, go ahead and check out the video! (Video may be a little NSFW- there are burlesque dancers, though they aren't actively removing clothing.)
