Big tease! Now be patient. There will likely be more ambitious projects sprouting up nearby which we will learn more about next year.

Judging by the construction cone blocking the ramp, the lower level of parking has been closed since last week, so this project may be happening soonish.

I know it's slightly off topic, but does anyone on here know how an underground ramp with no above ground structure came to exist at this site? Was it the basement garage of a now-demolished building? Was there supposed to be a structure atop the garage that was cancelled? It's always puzzled me.

Sort of like the lot on 6th and Wabasha in St. Paul in that regard. My guess as well is that these were lots retrofit into the basement of an old building since demolished, but I have no idea.

You are correct on both counts. While it cost to build the ramps to the basement, they were basically about to have twice the parking cash flow due to 2 levels of parking verse one. The basement was already concrete so there was no extra money spend to build it. The main floor was paved over for the upper level. The only money spend was the ramp down to the basement.

Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
choice, this block is going to look nice in a couple years! I also want to know would 4Marq be connected to the skyway? Would they build the connection in a way that it would be able to extend north?
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
more surface parking bites the dust. excellent.
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
Yes it will be connected to the skyway system. I'm sure that this will be designed to get a skyway to the old Sheraton block.choice, this block is going to look nice in a couple years! Usually how long is it with a project like this, once it is started, before a tower crane goes up?

Don't know what the average timeline is, but looking back on the Nic on Fifth and LPM threads shows almost exactly 3 months passed between each of those lots closing and their respective cranes going up. So, probably late February for a crane based on that.
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
That's probably a good basis to go by. It's nice seeing them back downtown.

It's going to be fun and interesting to see how Opus' crane and Mortenson's crane work with/around each other in such a small space. Even if the Nic on Fifth has little lifting left to do in three months, the new Xcel building will be starting soon. I cannot wait to see that block finished

Seems like a really hard time to be digging foundation...
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
^ Not really. The maximum depth of ground freeze is about 40 inches; even less downtown due to the heat island effect.
