The thing that bugs me most about this building and Solhaus Tower is that it seems like there should be some sort of overhang at the roofline.

Yes, once again this is the architect's foolish aesthetic for a flat 2-d articulation for the facade. The problem is that architecture is inherently three dimensional and sculptural. There is no way to get around this fact. His thinking is skewed by some odd conceptual idea he is defying tradition and being "artsy".

Yeah, I've zipped my lips until this thing got further along, but I'm underwhelmed. Actually, beyond under; I'm in Sub Basement 3 of whelmed.

The facades do look flat and cheap. I'm 'eh' about the honey colored brick, the dark brown brick portion is much better. The silver panels already look a bit buckled and uneven. I am not walking past there during a storm, for fear a metal panel will fly off and sever my head. And the balconies look like repurposed window washing carriages.

The architect purports the building to be a "green" design , however , there is nothing "green " about using cheap materials that won't last.

Also, for those thinking that MSP has a special kind of ugly and cheap infill...check out this website:

http://www.denverinfill.com

If you look at the multifamily construction...pretty similar stuff.

I like some of the buildings in the newer posts on that site, but digging backward definitely shows that it's mixed. Some of the renderings definitely make me want to gag.

There is something to be said for a simple building with flat sides, as Andres Duany noted in this old lecture. I'd take it over '70s to '90s randomness any day.

Denver has an enormous number of open lots -- I had no idea! Those projects are like oases in the middle of a barren sea of concrete!! I think Minneapolis projects make Denver's look bad, personally (especially how they fit into their existing areas)!

I actually think this one turned out pretty good. The colors work well together and the landscaping is nice touch.

It looks like people have started moving in. One of the back balconies had a grill and outdoor furniture on it and I saw a women using the gym this morning.

Here's a shot of the gym area (taken a few days ago). It's tiny and barely has anything in it.

The first thing I noticed was that security camera.

I didn't even see that while I was taking the picture but I definitely see it now, haha. It is downtown after all...

Walking by this building yesterday I felt like this was a 2 dimensional fill in building. When I look at the Solhavn down the street, I see all the mistakes that they did a better job of fixing when they built that building.
