I would have to say the unwillingness to comprise and the absolutist attitudes is disturbing. Reminds me of the government shutdown crazies who took everything to the brink and discredited themselves.
The 'comprise' [sic] would have been leaving the house and building units around it. Lander Group would never have entertained such an idea which left Mike Crow stuck in the middle.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.

Why can't the Lander Group just offer the house up for free to anyone who pays to move it by a predetermined date and then wreck it if no one steps forward by then? Everyone wins.

How has no one thought of that yet??

If she wanted to, she could have easily used her celebrity status to raise enough money to pay for moving the house herself. Instead, she decided to pick a fight with the City Council and ended doing more harm to her cause.

And now she's trying to play the victim.

Well the other thing about moving the house is that it would allow the development to go forward, which is what half of the "preservationists" don't want.

As suggested in numerous comments on the previous page, some of these people couldn't give less of a shit less about saving the house. They just don't want more development. If their side had been united in simply wanting to preserve the house and nothing more, it might be getting moved instead of torn down.

Doesn't development raise their property values? I know people are scared of renters and all but this area already has a high proportion of renters, so what's the big deal?

Hopefully this will be my last post about this Issue. I just wanted to clarify a few things. In the beginning this was not about historic value, it was about stopping the apartment development, by a small group that used the people that really care about the issue and caused them to lose some of their credibility for future issues that may be much more important. At any time they could have ended this by offering the same price that the developer did $600,000., and I would have had no choice but to sell it to them, because I would not have had any support from the council, because it would have been a legitimate alternative to the demo. I don’t know how many viewers Nicole Curtis has on her tv show, but even if it’s a half million that would have been a little over a dollar a piece and far below the average square foot of property in the area, But that would not of made good tv or publicity and would not have dragged out for almost two years. From the first time they ask to move the building I and the Landers group said that we would sign any paperwork needed to give them the building so they could move it, and after talking with Nicole about it she sent me an email saying that she wanted to move both buildings and wanted Landers group to give her contractor $200,000. To do it. I wish I could call Lisa Bender a friend but I don’t even know her well, and have had very little contact with her through this process and before; I did door knock and donate $100. To her campaign but I think I only talked to her one time during the campaign when I was picking up my material for door knocking, I said Hi and she said thank you for your help, During the primary campaign every candidate for the tenth ward visited the building except Meg Tuthill and without putting words in their mouth, they all said about the same thing, that historical value was very important to them, as well as individual rights and they were not experts but did not see a lot of the original building left. This did not have to become the circus that it did, and would not have had the media coverage if it had not been for the contacts that Nicole has being a celebrity, it was a waste of time, money and emotions. I think we need the HPC and I appreciate the people that volunteer to do this, but the decision they make can have life changing consequences, and I think the guide lines should be followed with as little emotion as possible, and that there needs to be a better working relationship between them zoning and the city council.

Rehab Addict certainly could have run a Kickstarter campaign, pushed it on her show, to get the balance of funds to buy it and move it. Only if the point was to save it though I guess.

Mcrow, thank you for making sense of this for me. You set straight things that I did not know and verified other things that I had assumed were the case. Nicole wanted someone else to pay for things she did not want to pay for. Expecting a developer to pay to move a house for you so you don't have to front the cost is a big Thing. I don't want you to tear down the house, but I'll take it if you pay to move it for me. Shows how far some people will go. But glad that you now get to move on with your life and get this stress off your shoulders.

I don't get it. I just don't get it. Will this never die. Is Healy actually a cult/religious building, and tearing Healites think tearing down this house will unleash some demonic power?

Also, they're suing the property owner? On what grounds? Why aren't they suing the city for "illegally" allowing demolition of a historic resource? I'd be really interested to read the actual filing, if it even exists.

I don't get on what grounds they are suing Mr. Crow. He hasn't done anything wrong. He went through all the proper channels and procedures.

They're suing based on the Minnesota Environmental Rights Act, MN Stat. 116B. It seems to me that's quite the stretch. I'm a little surprised they even found a lawyer to take the case.
