Rochester airport (RST)

Postby mulad » May 12th, 2014, 8:25 am

Hmm, I thought we had a Rochester airport thread, but maybe not -- previous discussions may have been happening in the Zip Rail thread or elsewhere.

Anyway, Delta is starting daily service from Rochester to their hubs in Detroit and Atlanta starting September 14th: http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/tr ... 01191.html

Technically resuming service to DTW.
RST also once had service to STL on TW and DFW on AA.

The article also mentioned that Allegiant Air ended its service to/from Rochester, with the last flight to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport happening last Wednesday. I think they only had once-per-week flights. Are they still using STC?

Some good news for the Rochester International Airport, as it'll get to keep the "International" part of its name.
A project aimed at making sure Rochester International Airport doesn't lose its international status is set to take off thanks to a $7.3 million federal grant.

Members of Minnesota's congressional delegation announced on Tuesday that the U.S. Department of Transportation had awarded the funds to the airport. Those dollars will go toward a $12 million project to expand the airport's customs facility.
As part of the airport project, the 450-square-foot customs space would be expanded to 20,000-square-feet and moved to the main terminal. Upgrades would include segregated and secure inspection rooms, lockup facilities for detained passengers and segregated and secure luggage and cargo inspection areas.

Not to be snarky or anything, but does RST even have an international service right now?

According to their website, they only have scheduled service to MSP, Chicago, and Atlanta.

Idk, seems to me that a 450 sq. ft. space should be fine for the occasional chartered flight.

Yeah, I think it's always been for charters or private flights, unless maybe there's been an occasional seasonal flight somewhere out of the country?

Mayo Clinic has started a new policy that requires many of its employees to fly in/out of the Rochester airport when flying for work.
This new policy means more than 30,000 Rochester employees must now use the Med City airport when traveling for work instead of flying out of the nearby Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport. The edict, which went into effect Wednesday, also includes employees flying into Minnesota from Arizona and Florida.
While the city of Rochester owns the airport, Mayo Clinic is contracted to manage it via its Rochester Airport Co. firm.
