Eh. Looks like they're stealing the lighting design from the Cowles too.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Mayo Clinic Square (formerly Block E)
Wish more projects created videos like that. This one's a bit unique since they are using it as a sales tool for the available retail and office space. I hope the interior isn't as stark as they showed it. I think those second floor spaces will be broken up if they can't find potential tenants in the next few months.
Re: Mayo Clinic Square (formerly Block E)
It looks ugly and depressing. Even worse than the original and that's hard to do. It could be worse by being black which is oppressive.
Re: Mayo Clinic Square (formerly Block E)
Yeah, except the screens will have a nicer pattern and won't look as much like a chain link fence. Plus it isn't attached to historic buildings which makes the marquee for Cowles look rather strange and totally disconnected.Eh. Looks like they're stealing the lighting design from the Cowles too.
Re: Mayo Clinic Square (formerly Block E)
I would have to disagree that it's not worse than the original. It definitely does need a splash of something though. Hopefully the retail/dining establishments will add some pizzazz once they move in.It looks ugly and depressing. Even worse than the original and that's hard to do. I think the big moves are pretty good, but I'm really concerned for how this gets detailed out. It's as if the architects presented a conceptual design, and the developers said, "OK, good enough. We can build it from that."
Re: Mayo Clinic Square (formerly Block E)
That's sort of my take on it too. The modernist style looks nice but the coloration is a bit antiseptic. Still a huge improvement over the original. Needs some neon retail signage, sidewalk cafe's etc to brighten it up a bit. I hope they downplay the "Mayo Clinic Square" signs around the complex a bit. Sounds too institutional.I would have to disagree that it's not worse than the original. It definitely does need a splash of something though. Agree about the signage, it's a little gaudy.

Re: Mayo Clinic Square (formerly Block E)
From the start I've thought "Mayo Clinic Square" was a terrible name. I think we're going to have to adopt some sort've nickname for it. I can't see myself ever saying, "Hey, let's go to Mayo Clinic Square!"

So if someone is confused about what happened to Block E, you just tell them... no, I can't bring myself to say it.

More like, "Hurry up, get the 'architecture' done so we can do a slick animation and we'll figure out how to build it/VE it just enough to be approved later." That is ABSOLUTELY the reality of how buildings are currently being designed/entitled/built.

Wow. Didn't expect a big hotel corporation like Loews to have any big interest in this
Re: Mayo Clinic Square (formerly Block E)
The article said they are going to do a 10 million dollar upgrade too. This area is becoming quite a hot spot. Wish it would spill over to create infill on the vacant lots just north on Hennepin.Wow. Didn't expect a big hotel corporation like Loews to have any big interest in this
