And, BTW, there is an outstanding app for Windows Phone 8 for imgur from Alexander Tsoi called Grin Well worth a look.

Empty!

Also looks like they are bracing the old foundation (which looks like an old foundation - maybe even the Times Building foundation..) Seems like the parking ramp made for a quick excavation.

That's definitely the old Times Building- the garage was built in the old basement. Cool to see it exposed- thanks for the photo! Also looks like they are bracing the old foundation (which looks like an old foundation - maybe even the Times Building foundation..) Autorized sounds like a pejorative term used to describe the transformation of an historic urban place with narrow roads into a car-centric suburban development with wide roads
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
Two misspelled words on a sign with only six has to be some kind of Minneapolis record.
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
That is exactly what it is, Mortenson's only option is to connect through The Nic on Fifth, really no benefit to Opus to lose parking/retail to connect a competitors building..This may just be an F-U from Opus to Mortenson. The big construction companies can be just as petty as teenagers sometimes.

Even taking the competition out of it, it really makes no sense to lose parking on such an already-small plot to create a second-floor retail/skyway connection. That is exactly what it is, Mortenson's only option is to connect through The Nic on Fifth, really no benefit to Opus to lose parking/retail to connect a competitors building..This may just be an F-U from Opus to Mortenson. Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
Walking by yesterday it looked like they had tied back some of the old foundation. I especially noticed this with that wall that backs up to the alley that must be remaining between Exel and Marq 4. Saw a pickup sitting in the alley way. So I'm not sure what is up with that strip of land, if that is a city alley or what?
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
Looking at the Hennepin tax map, it looks like both the alley between 4Marq and the Nic on 5th and the alley between 4Marq and Xcel are public alleys.

What I thought, but did not want to make any assumptions about that. There is your skyway route over the alleys. As a resident you would just have to enter the building thru the parking garage and I'd think it would end up a secured door to the building. That route allows the skyway to extend over to the Ritz block. There would be not store front in that section. Basically blank walls like walking thru the Public Safety skyway.Looking at the Hennepin tax map, it looks like both the alley between 4Marq and the Nic on 5th and the alley between 4Marq and Xcel are public alleys.

Nice, thanks.

oih nice, thanks for that web cam link. really shows what a small footprint this is.
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
It's really no smaller than the tower of "Nic on fifth (465 Nicollet Mall)."
On a side note, don't you think the address of "Nic on fifth" would've been better as "1 east 5th street" and thus a better name?
Edit:Not that Nick is a bad name! Just better suited to people and not buildings.... How did they come up with the 65 on that address anyways? What an arbitrary number for a block divided into three properties. Most of the building faces 5th street, why not give it a address on 5th?

Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
Because Nicollet Mall is a more prestigious street.
As far as 1 East 5th St. goes, by my understanding, Hennepin is the origin point for E-W (N-S? Let's go with NW-SE) streets. Addresses on the NW side of Hennepin are XXX Xth St. N, and on the SE side are XXX Xth St. S. So 1 5th St. S would be the Lumber Exchange building, or the parking lot across the street from it. Nicollet Mall, for some reason, only counts as a halfway point between Hennepin (0th Ave), and Marquette (1st Ave S). Washington works the same way, so Marquette Plaza, for example, on Washington and Marquette, is 250 Marquette Ave.

Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
Nicollet Mall is the premiere street downtown. Most people don't really think too much about the number part of the address any more than they need to in order to know which block it's on. 465 Nicollet is just fine.
