4Marq - 400 Marquette Ave (313' - 30 Stories)
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
umm, the project footprint is a like a third of nic on fifth. nic stretches the entire width of the block, parking ramp and all.

Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
tabletop was comparing the towers, but yes the Nic on 5th podium is HUUGE compared to 4Marq.
It makes me wonder - decades from now, will it become economically justifiable to redevelop some of the larger podium sections downtown as good parcels become scarce?

Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
I would have guessed that for every 100 block address the individual numbers assigned to buildings within a block represent some fraction of 100. In this case, maybe it's 1/3, or 35, 65 and 100 (plus 400) if there are three structure on the block. Thereby giving the Nic on 5th the 465 distinction.Nicollet Mall is the premiere street downtown. Most people don't really think too much about the number part of the address any more than they need to in order to know which block it's on. 465 Nicollet is just fine.
Who determines address numbers and changes? The planning department through revised plats?
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
Oh yeah, I knew that. Thanks.Because Nicollet Mall is a more prestigious street.
As far as 1 East 5th St. goes, by my understanding, Hennepin is the origin point for E-W (N-S? Let's go with NW-SE) streets. Addresses on the NW side of Hennepin are XXX Xth St. N, and on the SE side are XXX Xth St. S. So 1 5th St. S would be the Lumber Exchange building, or the parking lot across the street from it. Nicollet Mall, for some reason, only counts as a halfway point between Hennepin (0th Ave), and Marquette (1st Ave S). Washington works the same way, so Marquette Plaza, for example, on Washington and Marquette, is 250 Marquette Ave.

Concrete truck on site right now.
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
They've been drilling massive footings for the last couple weeks and filling them with concrete. Some of the holes they are drilling look 10 feet across. I've never seen augers so big. It's funny too, each time I've walked by, 5 to 10 people standing at the fence watching.
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
There's a decent sized mobile crane on site now. I'm not sure they could fit much more equipment on this site.

At what point might we see the semblance of a structure going up on this site?

For context:At what point might we see the semblance of a structure going up on this site?
Nic on 5th demo work began in Nov. 2012.
Crane was installed in Feb. 2013.
The first floor was in place by late March/early April 2013.
This project's demo work began in late June.
So a guess is that one would think once they have the proper foundation support and walls, the crane should be installed sometime in Sept or maybe Oct (assuming the demo work is similar). With structure popping above ground before Thanksgiving.
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
The huge cassions they are putting in here seem crazy for a 30-story building. I wonder if the site has weird soil conditions?
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
This might be on top of a giant underground cave. I think there's one near this site. Maybe that has something to do with it?

There are caves in Minneapolis..!?
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
^ Like you wouldnt believe. Downtown Minneapolis is basically built on top of a vast amount of underground caves. You should be able to Google it and read all about it.

I mean I knew they had them in STP but not MPLS
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
Yeah, there's a cave under the neighboring block:

I was kind of thinking that that had something to do with it.

You'd think caves would be epic natural spaces for underground rail stations.
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
That was a seriously phenomenal (and disgusting) read. Thanks, Nick!

Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
Yes, but did Greg Brick ever actually get to the cave or just plagiarize it?
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
Anyone know where to find the photos of that?
