This is hideous. Apparently their idea is to plaster advertising everywhere.

Isn't that pretty much what soccer is? They plaster advertising on everything.

Why then did the MLS locate the most recent franchise in Atlanta's NFL stadium?
Enthusiasm for the MLS will be tepid in Atlanta along with all professional sports in Atlanta. No use in building a soccer specific stadium in Atalanta, but it is worth a shot that maybe the sport will catch on. The NHL tried its hardest and lost millions to make professional hockey work to no avail. Atlanta is a big market so worth it take a flyer on the investment maybe paying off. If it doesn't workout the MLS will just shut down the franchise, no one will give a shit and move on.
Atlanta fans are incredibly fair weather when it comes to professional sports. I suspect they care twice as much about college football than all the region's professional teams combined.

What happened in Atlanta (and with NYCFC) went against the basic principles that made MLS expansion successful in recent years. Instead of needing a wealthy owner and a soccer-specific stadium, the criteria lately seems to be more a wealthy owner and either an urban stadium or a soccer-specific stadium.

Unfortunately our ownership/stadium situation is almost identical to Atlanta.

Minnesota United, if they can get a stadium plan together, would be more akin to the Portland Timbers, another team with a long minor league history and a grassroots following. If there's even a chance to replicate the Timbers in Minneapolis, MLS should be doing everything in its power to make it happen. If the Wilfs get a team instead, it means either United didn't have a viable stadium, the league jumped the shark, or both.

Just to be sure, in a city like Minneapolis you could argue that an urban stadium is more important than a soccer stadium. I think a team would ultimately be more successful playing in the Vikings stadium downtown rather than playing in a soccer stadium in Blaine.

That said, I don't see why MLS should settle for just one, especially when the vague United plan literally checks off every important factor. But I'm also not the MLS commissioner.

It's also a local company. Triple win. Hopefully this goes somewhere.

From the STrib:

Testing of a 3M film for the glass will begin in spring. If it works, that's the fix.

Looks like another green support tower is finishing up. Do we think they will lift another section of roof beam before the first of the year, or wait until spring at the soonest?

Hopefully, it is not the type of product that bubbles and peels, like when people get a cheap window tint done on their car.

Doubt that 3M would put their reputation on the line with a poor product. This would be the biggest free PR that they can get. I say free as the Viking will be paying for the film or will 3M take a promo banner inside the stadium instead of payment?

having worked for 3M for a few years, I can say that a lot of the buildings in downtown already have 3M films applied to them. They have dozens of different product which offer unique features.

On my drive in to downtown this morning, I noticed that they have started putting up exterior paneling on the east side of the stadium. You can see it on the right side if you're coming in on the 5th street exit from 94.

Found this on the MSFA website. It is titled as an Exterior Design Rendering. Here is the link to the image. http://www.msfa.com/content/RFP%20LED/E ... erings.pdf\

Nice to see at least some of the design elements that they are thinking about...
