I don't think anyone else here subscribes to Finance & Commerce...so we can't read it.
Go to the downtown library as they have all the copies you want to keep up to date. I believe the Southdale library branch also has the F&C there too.
I live in Cleveland....I apologize if I'm too lazy to go to the Southdale Library...

BTW, 250 apartments instead of the guesstimated 297 is sort of big news that wasn't in the highlighted section of the article!

That's nearly a quarter of the units being lost. I wonder if they're losing smaller units on the bottom floors, or just making everything bigger, or what?

I would tend to think they're eliminating the smallest units. If the condo market really is turning around then Opus might be re-thinking the strategy. Build an apartment tower now with fewer small units that might be more easily turned into condos later?

I'd guess any developer building something like this always has an eye on a potential condo conversion down the line, but I agree it's possible the turning market (plus the lowered height) altered their strategy a bit. I know my wife and I would love to buy something if this building turns out to be as attractive as I think/hope it will be.

So is this thing actually happening? Haven't seen much activity on this topic recently on UrbanMSP.

According to a recent Finance & Commerce article, Opus will begin demolishing a small commercial building on the site in the beginning of October. That said, things should be getting underway soon.

An article from earlier this month on Opus' revival states that construction is still to begin this fall:

Does anyone still think work will begin on Nicollet Residences this month?

I can't imagine Winter is a good time for heavy excavation with our weather, so if they're going to start, they better start soon.

Why wouldn't it? They got their funding.

Haven't you heard? Global Warming means that a typical Twin Cities winter will be highs hovering around the freezing mark with many many more freeze/thaw cycles.....winter construction here we come!

As of today they are not letting World Street Kitchen set up their truck here during lunch. Seems to indicate that they are commencing work shortly.

Actually fall/early winter is still ok to dig. My family business was a small landscaping company and from my experience even if the ground were to freeze once they get past the few inches of frozen ground it would be pretty much digging like normal. Even if the temp. was still freezing at night I don't think it would be to much added work, and they could cover the site with concrete blankets to keep the ground from freezing on the weekends if it was a concern. Actually it might be a better then you don't have to risk overheating your equipment and nobody likes to work in the heat of summer! Though if they are digging in Dec. and Jan. then it might be kinda rough for the workers because of the cold.

They can dig year round. It's just harder on the equipment in the winter.

Anyone know if that demolition of the small building on the site that was planned for early October ever happened?

The building is still there, and people are still parking in the near by lot.
