Woah it kinda looks like you can get something that's close to a German Döner there... I say that extremely cautiously. Fingers crossed.

Donerkebab? A good excuse to have a late night UrbanMSP booze session downtown. Doner.

What are the characteristics of a German doner? I'm most familiar with British.

To me German Döner is lamb tomato onion and chili. The spice level is intense by German standards but mild to me. I've not been to England but the Döner in France is bland with practically no seasoning. Polish döner has the same bland french flavor but with cabbage.

I really wish they'd redesign the exterior for the Forum space.

Curious to see how they add a sidewalk entrance to this basement space?
The Bolt Underground (where this will be going), doesn't have it's own entrance on Washington (at least that I know of).
Shall be interesting to see if there's a niche for this...

Apparently there is such a thing as a "table tennis bar and restaurant," and apparently one will be opening in the basement of Eagle Bolt.

A description of the concept from an online job listing:

Come join us from the ground up at what promises to be one of the most popular venues in the Twin Cities. Hop21 Table Tennis Club & Bar is an unprecedented concept that focuses on creating a unique mixture of sports, design and entertainment with 7 ping-pong courts, a full bar and a mouth-watering menu.

I think you are talking about the space that used to house the Underground at the Bolt/Eagle. They gave up that space awhile ago and closed off that entrance again. There must be a new entrance next to the Crooked Pint or is affiliated with the Crooked Pint. But that would be the space you are referring to.

There are stairs and an elevator that goes down to the space. But you have to entering in the doorway that is the main entrance to the building that is set on the parking lot and not on Washington itself. This is basement part of the 501 building, not the (Eagle/Bolt buildings, 515 and 507 Washington). Two separate entities.

Another basement night life place opening in the basement of the lumber exchange. Under the name of The Exchange, an underground night club based partly off of The Underground in Chicago and The Rouge that was there in the 1990s. The second part will be called the Alibi Lounge, which will be partly a mix of the Oceanaire and the Parlour Bar. Apparently construction started in the winter and will open in June

I wish the exchange luck, as few ventures with that space have been able to make a go of it. I think 2 years has been the longest I ever saw. But my years of frequenting Hennepin in the evenings are behind me so I'm not sure what the make up of the crowds have been in the last few attempts at clubs down under.

Agree. It's never had much long term luck in attracting tenants. I think it was even a gay bar at one time. I've been in there a few times over the years and its a pretty cool space. Wish it luck too!

Article on 3 of the new Italian restaurants opening this year. 2 downtown, Monello (opening in June) and Il Foro (opening in early summer). I saw a few chefs standing outside of Il Foro the other day!
