Kinda boring but I think we can have good urbanism with attached garages on alleyways because for one, there are a lot really well done around 50th and lake Harriet, and they still have yards and alley access to the garage. Garage is nowadays much more than just car storage (bicycles, etc.). Considering our climate I am ok with attached garages and skyways. I believe we can still have good urbanism by focusing on more critical improvements. I also get a kick out of the mix of different garage configurations and all types of homes in a block.

I was just saying to my wife the other that attached garages (tuckunder or whatever) in the back yard can be done really well *if* you don't care about a fully fenced yard. People have paver patios all the time as backyard space, it's not that crazy to just extend it to the alley, even taper it down to 10-12' wide at that point. Honestly, though, I dislike bringing the garbage out through the cold yard a lot less than I thought I would moving back in from the burbs.

I held out certainty that closing Washington Ave to auto traffic through the U was going to be a carpocalypse. Boy was I wrong. It was the first time I was able to personally experience the stuff Jane Jacobs wrote about. In my mind I guess I told myself it worked in Jane's neighborhoods because there was something distinct with her neighborhoods that made it work out. It wasn't so different after all.

I like cycling as much as I like driving: not at all.

Rollerblading is great though.

Ayy, I'll clarify, since that was ambiguous.
I like to cycle as much as I like to drive: not at all.

Just in this week alone I have eaten at Applebees in Bloomington and walked all 3 levels of MOA...for exercise.

Every few weeks I suffer from selective amnesia and decide to visit e-democracy expecting worthwhile discussion.

Hah! Our landmarks could use more social media representation. I thought Foshay had a Twitter account too. Would really enjoy seeing various Twitter conversations between them.

No that's legitimately awesome, nothing to be embarrassed about there.

1. I moved to Minneapolis four years ago and don't have a car. Consequently all my views of the suburbs are based on stereotypes/I don't know where most of them are geographically. Yet, I don't hesitate to agree when others bash them.

2. I went to a suburban Milwaukee high school for two years but I pretend I didn't.

3. I have never owned a bike

4. I'm pretty sure that as an architect I will design a building that gets destroyed on this forum due to things outside my control.
