A remind for those that want an excuse to go out to eat tonight. There are restaurants that are participating in the Dine Out for Life program that you can find the participant list at Lavender.com or one of their magazines that are scattered around town. There are over 150+ restaurants that are participating this year.

Didn't know if this should be downtown or not but Lee's Liquor Lounge is being sold

http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/n ... -sold.html

One of the biggest quotes I got out the article
Under his watch, the cash-only bar will begin taking credit cards. He also plans to ramp up marketing efforts, add to its staff and build a patio.
Patio... in this area? Are you sure about this?

Why shouldn't there be a patio at Lee's?

Rooftop? Sure, Lee's would have a great downtown view. Along the street? The local pedestrian traffic between Harbor Light, Higher Ground, and Mary's Place don't seem to lend well to the effort.

I have to agree that they will have to have it where there is limited access. The street would only cause numerous police calls.

Have to assume that any patio will be in the empty lot behind the bar along 12th. Should be able to buffer it from the street easily if they need to.

Has anyone ever been to Grumpy's patio on Washington? I can't imagine it would be much worse than that.

I've played gigs on that patio. Sort of a fun spot, has an industrial grit element to it.

I don't think it is a matter of the road volumes or noise. Rather that Lees is close to a few shelters and (might) have an impact on who's wandering around.

This remodel will be quite interesting. I'm curious as to what happens with the other stucco that surround the hotel parts on the other 3 sides. I'm taking it that this pic is taken on 8th street? I'm looking forward to seeing if there is a beauty or a beast that lies under that stucco in the end.

Wooo! I really hope this means they completely redo the exterior. This building is currently ridiculous.

Wow, I had no idea part of that hotel used to look -- decent! Now if they'd only redevelop the other part of the block that hosts surface parking and then the hotel-above-parking motor lodge fail.

Too bad it sounds like only the first floor facade at the corner of 8th and 4th, and not the entire building. I wonder if the new patio will be on the 4th Ave side. It would be nice to see that activated and looks pretty ready to be.

Seems like past renovations with this building has been done in phases. So let's hope that if the restaurant business picks up that they will look at remodeling the exterior to get an exterior that travelers would have more of a preference to stay in. The exterior now looks like you should expect floral bedspreads and 50's/60's style bathroom fixture if you had not stayed there before. I know that they just did some interior renovations in the last few years, but I'm not sure if that was just common areas or rooms also.

I never noticed the exposed brick at the main entrance until today:

https://www.google.com/maps/@44.973462, ... 312!8i6656

What is this style of roof called? 1970's Mansard? When I was a kid, this style reminded me of Darth Vader's helmet.
