Lowry Avenue Bridge
Lowry Avenue Bridge
In their article about the Plymouth Avenue Bridge, F&C says that the Lowry Avenue Bridge won't be open this summer. Completion has apparently slipped to sometime between September and December.

It surprises me that it is that far out because they've almost finished the approach from Lowry to the bridge. It looked to me like the decking is complete. They still need to complete the reservoir for the rainwater, but beyond that it seems like smaller items to me.

Re: Lowry Avenue Bridge
I am so excited for the completion of these two bridges - and for Broadway to finally not be such a disaster every evening. I'll have to run down and take some updated pics soon. I noticed a work truck on the Plymouth bridge last night, but there's not much to see.

Re: Lowry Avenue Bridge
an iconic bridge we have to look at for 100 years is worthwhile. give's the community a sense of pride of place. look at the missed opportunity that was the "new" wabasha bridge. bridges should be built right and beautiful when sited in such prominent locations.

Re: Lowry Avenue Bridge
While I like how the new bridge looks, I'm still not sure if it's the right design for that bridge. I drive past it every morning and I'm still trying to get used to it. Either way, it can't open fast enough for my liking! Having the traffic from three bridges (Broadway, Plymouth & Lowry) diverted to one for the last year and a half has been taxing on a lot of peoples patience.

Is there a new rule that every KSTP story must now contain the phrase "taxpayer money"?

Re: Lowry Avenue Bridge
Since this is sort of related, anyone know why the exits on 94 don't match up with the Camden or Lowry bridges?

Re: Lowry Avenue Bridge
I don't know for sure, but I have a theory: Up until the early 80's, I think, I-94 only went as far north as the Dowling exit and entrance ramps. I don't know why they chose to end it at this point, but I suspect that those ramps are too close to the Camden and Lowry bridges to make adding ramps there feasible.
Re: Lowry Avenue Bridge
Anyone know what some of the actual details on cost/delays were on this project? KSTP was pretty light on details.

Re: Lowry Avenue Bridge
I've always wondered why there is such a big gap without an exit between Broadway and Dowling. It's the worst when you get on 94 at the bottleneck thinking you will take it to Broadway only realizing it doesn't work from there. Then you gotta go all the way to Dowling and all the way back down. Used to make that mistake a lot. (Yes, I also drive a car.)

And you've got a sense of humor about it too!(Yes, I also drive a car.)
Re: Lowry Avenue Bridge
I just came across a Strib blog post saying that the Lowry Avenue Bridge will open on October 27th. The project's website has a flyer with a schedule of opening-day events from 10:30 am to 1 pm.

I'll probably be there with my kids. The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 11:30. I know the Mississippi Watershed District will be having an open house too. (they're on the NE corner of the bridge next to Tony Jaro's)

Looks nice. I dig the lighting

Re: Lowry Avenue Bridge
With the closure of the locks at the falls, the bridge will give the nighttime dinner cruises a destination to the north. What else will they look at?
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Lowry Avenue Bridge
Beautiful. Nice to see lighting elements added to bridges lately - Lowry, new 35 bridge, etc.
