Saw a new sidewalk sticker at Larpentuer and Snelling that said "coming soon: A LINE" and it looked official from Metro Transit. The strange thing was that it was at the stop on larpentuer (route 61), there was not a similar one on Snelling (route 84). Seems backwards to me.

Anyone else seen these?

What I don't like about this line, along with light rail is that it is very easy to board without paying. Along with that, more transit cops will have to be hired to check tickets which adds the the expense of the line. But I don't know what else could be done to make sure people pay.

Unless we decide, as a society, to either put chips in everyone or eliminate fares and pay for all operating costs via taxes, not much can be done cost-effectively.

Yeah, it's been discussed pretty thoroughly on this site before. But proof of payment with random fare checks improves bus travel times and results in higher ridership per revenue hour, with little extra cost per revenue hour due to transit cops. It's the type of no-brainer change we need to make across the entire bus system rather than worrying about the additional 1-2% of riders who may skip out on a fare.

Fare evasion lower on NYC Select Bus Service routes. Similar PoP system that the A Line will use.

I have seen the new A-line "platforms" going in on Snelling. They are the same height as the surrounding sidewalk. Does anyone know if the whole bus will "kneel" so that all doors will be flush with the curb?

Since the buses are the same as the ones MT usually buys, just with some internal and external enhancements, I'm guessing only the front will kneel. They said that they'd go for "near level" boarding and do nine-inch sidewalks where they could, so the doors will probably not always be flush/level. Plus, as seen with the Red Line, getting the doors flush even with a level platform is a challenge for the drivers.

I'm assuming the platforms that have gone in so far are the ones where they decided the 9" platforms weren't feasible. The mix of platform heights is probably going to drive me nuts.

Platforms will be under construction from now into early December on Snelling at St. Clair, Highland, Como, Hoyt/Nebraska, Larpenteur, and County B, as well as at Rosedale Center.

Cool before/after video neatly illustrating the benefits all door boarding (in Los Angeles):

A similar 69 to 31 second reduction in boarding time on the "A" line would shave 10 minutes; admittedly, it is unlikely that boardings take so long now.

So basically Hennepin NEEDS this. I think we spent about 8 minutes on boarding this morning on the 6.

The Transportation Committee is set to approve the purchase of 10 additional Bus Rapid Transit Ticket Vending Machines (BRTVMs) for the aBRT systems. The additional machines will be portable and meant for use during special events at any aBRT stop, such as for the state fair. They'll be solar powered and connect wirelessly.

Still seems crazy to me that they haven't decided how they'll brand this as a system. Why wouldn't you want to get ahead of whatever ad hoc names people are going to come up with? Even the bus drivers still say "Hiawatha line."

I think they landed on "no brand". It'll simply be the letter system, and that will provide enough significance in and of itself.

I still hate the livery. It will not age well. Already looks dated.
