I always heard that back when I worked at Thrivent for a time, but Emporis notes: "The name "Thrivent Financial" was added to the blank eastern facade during May 2004."
That's interesting. I have driven into downtown countless times on 7th, coming in on Hiawatha and cannot recall this logo being lit up at night, like I noticed recently. Perhaps I just didn't notice it - but when I did, I certainly thought about how Minneapolis tends to not allow logos.

Anyhow, I'll be interested to see how the WF and US Bank stadium logos, change the overall 'vibe' as you approach the City from NE on 35W and the east on 94, and SE on Hiawatha.

Thrivent had an illuminated sign but went to a larger sign. Google time machine the difference from 2013 to 2014:

As I recall, their argument for getting the signage allowed was that it would distract from their building's giant ass.

Hopefully to be covered by a new building sometime in the next few years?

Look like they poured a new curb on the stretch of Portland between the two buildings that implies a significant narrowing of the street, at least on the west side.

Loews has a lit sign, which you can easily see from Target Field.

On topic: I think the Wells Fargo buildings look much better in person than from any picture I've seen. Maybe I'm a sucker for symmetry, but I think these will look pretty good when complete.

The demolition fence is going up around the old Star and Tribune building. The wrecking ball should arrive soon.

I would hope that they are recycling some how. That is pretty nice stone to just grind up and use as fill for concrete. There is a lot of reusable stone and metals on that building. There is that great limestone around the front door area that should be harvested also for repurposing.

This looks pretty surgical which indicates to me that they are trying to reuse it in a meaningful way. If they just wanted to go for speed, they'd smash it with a wrecking ball.

Those decorative metal panels (between the windows ) are really cool, however, it doesn't look like they are salvaging them. That may not be feasible due to the way they were installed.

Wouldn't they just leave the metal panels on if they weren't salvaging them?

They're in crumpled heaps on the ground. They might be planning to sell them for scrap, but they're definitely not saving them.

Miley Cyrus wasn't available, unfortunately.

So are they already building The Edition? I thought that wasn't going to be built until some time after the park was in place. Or was it market conditions dictating when it was to be built? I was hoping to have the entire park in place for a bit before the apartment building was built in hopes that market conditions would change and perhaps get something taller...or nothing at all.

Unfortunately the granite is lying in broken heaps in front of the building. They're not recycling it.
