The state fair either brings out the worst in bus riders, or brings a lot of people to buses that don't normally take transit. I suspect it's the latter.

Wait for the person in the wheelchair to get on FIRST, people! Sheesh, that's just common decency. I mean, people just walked right by the guy sitting next to the door as if he didn't even exist.

Then when we stopped to let him get on, of course people funnel over to the rear door, grabbing every seat on the bus before we could get on. We had been one of the first 15 people in line.

So my family and our four guests from Michigan (including two young children) didn't have a seat. A couple riders gave up their seats for the two children but NO ONE offered a seat for my wife who was carrying our 30 lb. son.

God, sometimes I get so mad at people who don't understand transit and lack simple courtesy. My wife helped me hold my tongue. I did so out of respect for our guests.

Fun fact, up until at least 2002, MT's guide for persons with disabilities told them they should wait for everyone else to get on the bus before they should board.

Starting August 31, the Campus Shuttles will be restructured. A full explanation of the new routes can be found here:
http://www1.umn.edu/pts/bus/index.html
Since this started yesterday, there are maps online. This is a full system map:
http://www1.umn.edu/pts/maps/Library/pdf/MplsMap.pdf
It's missing a stop between Ridder and Marruici on 4th street, that is shown in the East Bank specific maps. It also sounds like this error made it into all the printed maps before they caught it and fixed it.

So what? I posted to facebook because people who don't read here might be interested. I posted here because folks here might have a special interest in it.

It's no worse than people who cross-post to facebook and twitter.

To be honest, I had no idea whether you were making fun of him or not.

Thanks for clarifying. That *really* didn't come through in your post.

Contracts for Metro Transit drivers expired on July 31st. According to the ATU, there's been no progress since then, so the negotiations will go into mediation this month.

Also, SouthWest Transit is making some major changes to their service.

Apparently, they'll be adding some trips to serve overnight shifts on reverse commute trip 684 for the first time.

The change that stood out to me was extending all Downtown Minneapolis trips from the north end of the Marq2 corridor down Washington Avenue N. Apparently there's this "north loop" area thats kind of taking off or something, so they want to serve that area.

Haven't seen anything about this. It's been at Target Field for a few months now. Image

I saw Drew Kerr post a shot of it via his personal Twitter account several weeks ago. I sent a reply asking if they will be deployed elsewhere, but didn't see a response.

I'm betting that it's an experimental installation to see how well HDTV displays can hold up in winter, especially compared to the LED matrix displays elsewhere. On paper, LEDs should hold up best in our climate, but I've seen many instances where they get damaged and lose elements over the course of a winter or two. MPR's "zipper" is starting to look ragged again after being repaired about two years ago.

LCDs can stop working as you get down around freezing, and apparently get damaged as temperatures dip below zero F, but a TV in an enclosure might generate and maintain enough heat to counteract that problem.

Or maybe I'm overthinking it.

They display ads between NexTrip information, so I'm guessing that's the impetus behind it.

Yeah, I remember in some meeting notes somewhere they were going to install these in light rail stations and possibly bus stops. And I also heard that they're going to install information kiosks ON the light rail trains.

I don't think it's been posted here yet that Thursday, September 3, ridership on the two light rail lines combined for 109,900 rides: http://www.startribune.com/light-rail-r ... 329079861/

That's an astounding number. It was a day with lots of special events, sure, but still - it's impressive that MT was able to handle that kind of volume without major system problems. Consider that the ridership was probably clustered into the normal rush hours, with the evening rush extending until event times and a third rush after the events were over. It's reasonable to assume that the 4-7 pm time period saw massive loads going both ways on both lines, especially the Green.

Interesting note on the C Line:
• Identify long-term (Phase II) east-west alignment and station locations (Olson Highway or Glenwood Avenue)
Maybe someone's listening to David Greene out there.
