That would certainly be patriotic.

Can someone remind me when construction activities are set to begin? I have August in my head, for some reason.

Yea, October. With demo beginning literally the day after the last home game per Lester Bagwell.

They still haven't stated whether it will be imploded or pieced apart.

Huh? That can't be right. I just looked at the season schedule, and the Vikings have 8 home games this year, with the last 4 being Nov. 7, Dec. 1, Dec. 15 and Dec. 29. And, they have to have a stadium available if they make the post-season, I assume. Can you clarify?

The footprint of the new stadium will extend west into the current dome parking lot, so I assume they get started over there before taking down the stadium.

Regarding demolition, there is a good amount that can be salvaged. I'd expect the field will be donated to some high school somewhere, and the roof will probably be saved too, so cleaning that out will take a bit of time too.

Although it's probably environmentally preferable to salvage as much as possible, watching them implode the Dome would be so cathartic

The last game.....in....October, huh? The season starts in September boys. Pretty sure they aren't playing 16 games in four weeks.

Tom, the Vikings have 8 home games EVERY year. As do all 32 NFL teams.

Oi....*facepalm*

It was pretty clear to me reading the comments above, but let's break it out:

Construction can start in the area behind the Metrodome whenever they can mobilize, perhaps as early as October. They will continue to play games in the Metrodome during this time.

Demolition of the Metrodome itself will begin as soon as the season is done.

But nice snark anyway.

The vikings are running out of parking lots. Now, Is there a 'park' space they could lease nearby? Preferably something they wouldn't have to own or maintain, but could have exclusive rights to? Hmmm.

the best idea proposed- building a land bridge over 35W for more parking. Minneapolis, connecting neighborhoods, one surface lot at a time.

To clarify, the ceremonial groundbreaking would occur in October, with work starting on areas not directly attached to the current stadium.

Actual demo of the dome would occur immediately after the last home game (hopefully the NFC Championship) in late January.

Company officials working on the nearly billion-dollar project are “99 percent sure” the Dome will not be razed in one, big blast in early 2014, according to John Wood, senior vice president of Mortenson Construction...

there's a guy on the planning commission who thinks his responsibility goes beyond the design of the stadium. Dan Cohen...real piece of work. made a grandstanding speech at the meeting today. is this same idiot running for mayor?

One and the same. Did he have anything to say about the Star Tribune? Maybe I should watch the meeting online, I'd like to hear a cook like him.
