That rendering is going to sit on top of the concrete slab in Nick's picture. No crisis to be had.and then developers wonder why people don't trust them?not exactly as attractive as it was before...

The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

I'm very confused by this post. Are you saying that because the building pictured in that updated "rendering" is going to sit on that slab that there isn't a "crisis?" What "crisis" are you referring to? While I wouldn't call it a "crisis", I would certainly say that this image is several steps below early images of the design - classic VE "stripping" of the building. While not a "crisis" in my mind, it is definitely not as nice of a building. What a shame...That rendering is going to sit on top of the concrete slab in Nick's picture. I think I misunderstood both Nathan and mplser in that they were reacting to the blue thing in the background and comparing that to the rendering. My bad.

not that the new one is all that ugly, but mostly because the rendering before it looked pretty damn sexy, and I was excited for it. the new one is alright, but plain and If I'm not mistaken, doesn't meet the sidewalk as wellI think I misunderstood both Nathan and mplser in that they were reacting to the blue thing in the background and comparing that to the rendering. My bad.

Here it is from another angle:
There''s no crane on the site. Is that strange since the are already working on the second floor? As I walked about it sounded like they were hammering away...I thought maybe they were planning on doing this whole thing by hand.

I don't think there'd be any need for a crane here, at only 4 stories. They should be able to just lift supplies up to the 4th floor with a lift truck or something.

Also, looking back in time, it looks like the Planning Commission approved all the requested variances, even though staff recomended they deny them.
Kind of sad about the downgrade of the exterior, because the original plans put forward in May look pretty sexy, and the craigslist ad/website look pretty ho hum. Kind of surprising actually. I have some friends that live in Sol Havn, one of this companies other properties, and they're a really good management company. I wonder what happened that made them change.

The new rendering definitely doesn't look as nice as the original, but it does look like they'll be using a lighter colored brick at least about half way up the facade. IMO brick > concrete board, so...glass half full? They took the new rendering down from the fence around the site, so I couldn't confirm this today, but that's what I remember from last time I walked by.
