I was at this event. It was a Uptown Association convention of sorts with several speakers. Dessa continued to point out that Uptown has become a place for the wealthy while the arts and entertainment have moved to NE. When she brought up that Suburban world should be a music venue again the whole audience applauded (250 or so people, mostly business owners) but the look on the politicians' faces made me think that it's destined for retail. I think most residents of the nearby neighborhoods have no interest in late-night music fans flooding the streets.Sigh. I'd really like to see Bender push through the necessary ordinance changes so that the Granada/ Suburban World can feasibly be brought back to life as a live music venue.
She tweeted the other night that she had been speaking/ at an event with Dessa and that the two had agreed on, among other things, Uptown needing more performance spaces. Here it is!

Dessa is not the brightest bulb.
Endorsing books by Eggers and DFW, lol.

Live music would be great. I miss the Uptown Bar. The bros probably would've ruined it anyway.

Speaking of uptown theaters.. I was walking down the alley yesterday and the back door to the old theater on Lyndale (not sure of the name) was open and it seemed they were doing some work in there. Anyone know what's going on with it?

As one of those residents, I would wholeheartedly embrace more music venues in the area.I think most residents of the nearby neighborhoods have no interest in late-night music fans flooding the streets.

But what about in your backyard?

There is the Solhem building abutting it directly, and a couple other apartments on Holmes.

Time to start playing "Guess That Chain!"
The tenant (or tenants?) here is going to be something big time. Probably something that many people won't like and will declare "Uptown is dead now" despite the opposite being true. I mean, this is next to the Apple Store, for chrissakes.
I have my fingers crossed for something great to open their first MN location, rather than a national chain that has locations at regional malls.
Brooklyn Industries would fit in perfect here: http://www.brooklynindustries.com/
I'll be going to the Chicago (Wicker Park) location next weekend. They have stores in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and one apiece in Chicago and Portland. That's it. A Minneapolis store would be a huge get.
Realistically, I'd be very happy with Express.

Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Vacant Historic Theaters in Uptown/LynLake
Zara - but I think that would be a better fit for downtown, plus seems their stores are larger, often multi-level.
Re: Vacant Historic Theaters in Uptown/LynLake
I think uptown or maybe north loop would be appropriate for them... there isn't really a clothing retail district downtown proper anymore for a zara to synergize with.Zara - but I think that would be a better fit for downtown, plus seems their stores are larger, often multi-level.

Why do you want to keep it vacant?Microsoft Store!
The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.
Re: Vacant Historic Theaters in Uptown/LynLake
Looks like there is a construction crew working on the Theatre on Lyndale and Lake. Anyone heard anything about this?
