Two good points. I personally wasn't worried about the former but see the appeal of your approach.

The foundation looked to be completed today with the area behind it (side opposite the park) being completely leveled and cleared. It's my guess there will be some slab on grade construction occurring on that side. Otherwise I don't see how it could possibly be big enough to produce ice cream.

It doesn't take a lot of space to produce large batches of ice cream. And Izzy's is just in the metro area, right? Sebastian Joe's has been producing ice cream for its stores and local cafes for years in a pretty small space.

I would really like to see him design a few more urban projects in Minneapolis, especially low to midrise multifamily housing. It would be interesting to see his approach to that type of building.

Off the top of my head I don't know the Website to Architecture Minnesota. But at the public libraries there are alot of back issues that will have alot of his other works in them.

All this talk about Salmela's other projects motivated me to check out his website and blog. When I didn't see any renderings of the Izzy's Factory, I sent him an e-mail asking if any renderings would be released and, if not, whether the previously released model (http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7039/6836 ... a594_z.jpg) would be an accurate depiction of the finalized project. Salmela's response is below:
