Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
There is always St. Paul for Pride during the construction time.It will almost certainly be Hennepin, as Nicollet buses have always been routed to Hennepin during parades, Thursday Farmers Market teardown, etc.
There's at least one huge event on Hennepin I can think of that does the inverse and detours buses to Nicollet - Pride. How's that gonna work? If buses are already being detoured to Hennepin, you can't exactly kick them off for Pride...
Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
God, Hennepin is going to be a nightmare for a year-and-a-half diversion. They really need to do Nicollet-Central simultaneous to this or not at all.

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
Personally I think the best option will be 3rd Avenue. The buses to northeast can just go over the bridge, and on the south end, 3rd becomes Grant which intersects Nicollet for the 17 and 18 lines.
I suppose we'll be finding out in short order in any case.

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
You're right, I got mixed up with 2nd.
Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
The city council hasn't yet approved the layout for this, have they? Isn't the construction mitigation usually figured out after a design is finalized?
"Who rescued whom!"
Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
Just got notice from the Office of City Clerk that I'll have to pay an $150 assessment on my condo for the reconstruction project.

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
Speaking as a Mpls resident (non downtown) who's paying approximately 5 dollars through my state income tax ($25MM/5MM ppl in MN) and maybe another 5 dollars through city property taxes (for the $3.5MM(?) city budgeted portion), I'm getting a great deal.
But a $100-150 one time payment for living on/near Nicollet Mall and probably use it frequently seems not bad at all. Again, I say this as someone who doesn't have to pay it, but... not too bad! Basically like a year's worth of Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Mine is $171. Doesn't feel great to get an unexpected bill in the mail, but I would rather pay it and get the upgrade for downtown.
Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
Kind of curious how close everyone is to Nicollet Mall. Because it's partially based on distance, no?

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
My watching is dependent on the amount of impotent rage about the assessment from citizens, please advise.

At least these are businesses (mostly?) speaking and their representatives at that, so it's not so many polemics.
But this lady, despite representing an office building, very much sounds like a lady whose home is being threatened.

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
Lot of sour grapes about buildings not on the mall being assessed for the project. Man I don't know.

Oh I liked that guy. Family man living here and watching it grow. It seems like residents are for it, people who just own properties downtown are against it... Interesting
