It did. I'm not sure if it's the same proposal or something new. I think the one in spring was for workforce?

Also, when it was really cold, I'd duck into the first possible building and get underground. Which works better/more intuitively on the West Bank where my classes were clustered.
This is true, the Gopher Way is much better on the West Bank. Maybe the only thing on campus that's better on West Bank. The gaps in the Gopher Way on East Bank are incredibly annoying, and I wish someone would donate the money to link the particular nodes of the system together.

That said, it's not that far from the bridge to the skyway between Blegen and Mondale. They could pretty easily, should they be so inclined*, link it into the Gopher Way directly.

*Nothing they've done on campus in the last decade has indicated they are so inclined.

Makes Prof. Levinson's fantasy linking of Huron Blvd to 24th pretty interesting. Maybe also worth linking 17th through to the Huron/24th connection as well?

I follow ESG's Instagram account. Yesterday they posted a sketch of what appears to be a new glass tower fronting Washington Ave.

I usually find that when the architect freely posts something it's dead, but maybe it's not the case!

If it's an actual thing, I just hope the seven storefronts are replaced with an amount equal to or greater than that. (not likely)

I could have sworn we'd talked about that project before, did it ever get its own thread?

This month's Board of Regents meeting features some interesting long-range discussions about the future of the TCF Bank Stadium area and the Superblock/hospital area.

https://regents.umn.edu/sites/regents.u ... ession.pdf

One 30-year option involves moving the entire hospital complex along Huron Ave and getting rid of the Oak St ramp (!) [see page 195]

Anyone know anything about the piece of land located just east of Stadium Village Station? Its a parking lot. I think their may be a motel or Hotel on that land too.

The parking lot is owned by the U. The Days Inn is jointly owned by the U and United Companies. They will jointly redevelop that property at some point in the future.

Here's a report about the site from last year: http://www.realestate.umn.edu/2407%20Un ... _FINAL.pdf

The U wants to give Pioneer Hall a little upgrade.
But after almost 90 years, “it’s really at the end of its useful life,” said Vice President Pamela Wheelock.

Rather than tear it down, the U wants to give Pioneer Hall a $99 million face-lift to bring the red brick landmark up to 21st-century standards.

The administration’s proposal, presented Wednesday to the Board of Regents, would preserve most of the red-brick exterior and renovate the interior, adding new study and gathering spaces, for $76 million. It would build a new 850-seat dining hall in Pioneer to serve all 2,800 students in the four-dorm Superblock, at a cost of $23 million.

Okay, what is up with the Board of Regents this year? Have they always been this arrogant, or am I just catching on. Now they plan on demoing one of the few remaining Steel elevators, the one people fought to save last year, for a sports bubble. This seems like such a random, and in my opinion pretty bad, place for a rec facility. I realize there are some existing ones nearby, but why continue that?

I'm guessing it's not a rec facility for students, but a practice field for athletics.
E: nevermind, I'm wrong about that, assuming it's the same bubble that's mentioned to be moving to the area in this article: http://www.startribune.com/regents-will ... 392219321/

All that said, the perennial problem with this property is that nobody knows how to preserve it in any kind of form that even comes close to being financially feasible. Even if some government entity stepped in and bought it to preserve it, what would they do with it? The best hope is that someone just buys it to hold it forever so we can look at it? Man I don't know.
