Did that place even count as a bookstore? When I went in, they had a terrible books-to-knicknacks ratio.

Nice to see this, was just walking by there today and noticing they've almost finished gutting the interior of the old Carbone's. Will be nice to see that building upgraded.

Anyone know what happened to the Taco Bell at Franklin/Minnehaha? Looks like there was a major fire or something.

Rebuilding as a new taco bell, according to the sign on the site.

The WTF building next to Popeye's on Lake Street is still not fixed from them tearing the upper porch off this spring. You can see the exposed rafters in some spots. Not sure why the city has not closed the building down until the repairs have been made. Sabri must be waiting for some really cheap labor during a snow storm to have it fixed. WTF is an appropriate name for this building.

Walking thru the Open Streets Nicollet today I saw that Ramen Kazama still is not open yet. Very impressed on how the Nicollet rebuild makes the street seem so much better. Had Breakfast at Nighthawks which has great food. Saw a coffee shop a few doors north of them that I'll check out another day. South Nicollet has come along ways in the last few years. Lots of great new establishments have sprouted up!

I assume you mean Five Watt. You should certainly go. Best coffee shop in the cities.Saw a coffee shop a few doors north of them that I'll check out another day!

The front wall was rolled up and was very open and nice inside. Due to not wanting to walk into or being hit by bikes I did not get a chance to see their sign, but was impressed by what I saw on my glance over. Will be well worth a stop on my walk home from church another Sunday.I assume you mean Five Watt. You should certainly go. Re: Southside - General Topics
Five Watt does have excellent drinks, but that organ is the worst (most annoying) coffeeshop gimmick I've ever seen.

Any one know what is going on with the Parisien (24th Lyndale)? Looks like they are redoing the out side. Strange as this is not even 10 years old.

Ya know, new construction = waterproofing issues 5-10 years later.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Southside - General Topics
Just from the quick glimpses I've seen, it looks like the plywood substrate is suffering from some pretty serious water intrusion.

The food truck's been in operation for a few weeks now, sitting in front of the store. I was surprised to find out that they open early and serve breakfast. A perfect one-two punch with coffee next door at Five Watt!
Finer Meats is waiting on inspector approval for their food truck, which they will start serving out of from out in front of their shop. Another exciting addition to this area.

A nice article about this in the Southwest Journal:The food truck's been in operation for a few weeks now, sitting in front of the store. I was surprised to find out that they open early and serve breakfast. A perfect one-two punch with coffee next door at Five Watt!

Hours will be 6:30/7am to 10pm in the spring, summer, and fall. I'd image they'll be shutting down for winter pretty soon.
It also goes on to say that Mrs. and Mr. Finer, in their 70's, are about to turn the store over to their son which would make him a 3rd generation owner/operator. It's been under the same family ownership for over 50 years so it looks like that tradition will continue on for quite some time. If I'm interpreting the article right, it previously operated as a meat market for 30 years under a different set of owners, and name. That means meat has been sold out of that storefront since the middle 1930's. Pretty cool!
