I think the bigger question is if they have good food. If it's good and gimmicky, I don't care. Hammer & Sickle and The Fremont had very lack-luster menus. The several times we frequented both places, it's been very slow and the food mediocre That's far worse, IMO than being gimmicky. Time will tell.

The Fremont lasted due to there food and drink deals.
If you give people a reason to go like good food, cheap food and drinks ect they will come. Glad to see the spaces wont sit empty for long.

I have a feeling that these two places are just new concepts from the same owners as Hammer and Fremont. I have no solid evidence to substantiate this other than that they're side-by-side and they're both going to be open to 2am.

Sort of, Suh still holds the lease, but recently decided to retire:

Located at 1300 Lagoon Ave., Hammer & Sickle opened in 2013 and The Fremont opened in 2015. The local restaurateur behind both concepts, Gene Suh, recently decided to retire and replace them with something else.

The building's owner, Ackerberg, enlisted Caspian Group brokers Marshall Nguyen, Jay Mawas and Winnie Patterson to secure new concepts for the spaces. Their role was facilitating a partnership agreement between Suh, who still holds a lease for the spots, and Marquise Walker, who's leading the creation and management of BreakfastKlub and Fire House.

Helming the kitchens for both is DeMarco Cavil, a personal chef who's cooked for celebrities and professional athletes, including Vikings, Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Wild players.

It would be kind of cool, but if that's the case, I give these places only 6 months.

I'm just not sure how large a market exists for porridge, dried fish, and warm mead. ...even in Minnesota.
