Don't worry, they spend $500 less per pupil annually than the state average. Truly a model to be emulated.

My kids have been enrolled in this district since 1998. We fully understand education issues in our city. That’s why so many Minnetonka kids (encouraged by their parents) want to make sure poor and/or minority kids get additional help. Every week for the last 17 years, hundreds of Minnetonka student volunteers (last year there were 450) take the bus to Minneapolis in order to tutor inner city grade-schoolers.

The reason why students do so well in Minnetonka is because the students come from homes with ample resources. Not because the administration is particularly adept. That's why people mock their back patting.

Failing as a rich kid is far different than failing as a a poor one.

Eden Prairie is pretty similar. Made me feel like a failure for getting a 3.0 gpa.

The district figured out years ago that if they increased enrollment, the cost per student would go down. So they’ve aggressively added classrooms and courted potential open-enrollees. The “back patting” - like the graphic to which David linked - is literally part of the district’s official PR effort to recruit families. It’s not done out of smugness. But I can understand why it comes across that way.

From the BizJournal article about the Bren Road project:
The site's proximity to employment concentration appealed to the developers because it is near heavy concentration of employment, Higgins said.
And that's why developers get paid the big bucks, boys and girls.

The graphic also has a ghosted out "HOTEL SITE" next to this parcel.

From Minnetonka: can confirm. Went to school there and left for the U in 07. There are insane levels of smugness. It is actually embarrassing to have to yell people I grew up in Minnetonka.

More importantly, that development will add some much needed daytime people to Opus II.

The city page for this project says city council approved 80+ units of senior housing adjacent to the Lake Minnetonka bike trail, a bit east of the Minnetonka Mills commercial strip.

That's closer to probably 2/3 of their customer base.

There is a tentative city council date on Sept 14th to discuss the former-Scicom site in the Opus II business park.

Just down the road about a block from the Highland Bank project, United Properties had proposed four stories of 99 units of senior rental housing. It is moving closer.

TCF's Ridgedale bank branch on Plymouth Road, across the road from the 5-story Highland Bank multi-use project, will be redeveloped.

http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/b ... edale.html

Instead TCF will split the lot and put their new bank on part, and allow a developer to put 5,400 sq ft of retail on the rest.

A better use, but not the kind I'd hope would happen. Maybe about as would be expected seeing it is TCF.
