Pledging for 3,000 new jobs in 3 years, focused on high poverty areas of the city. Gee, I wonder what could fit that bill? This might be the easiest campaign promise he'll ever make, right in time for him to run for Governor in 2018. Sorry to rain on the parade, but my day job is sniffing out bullshit and this reeks.

I've said it in this thread before, but something we should mention to our elected officials. Lambeau Field, a stadium nearly 4x the size of this one, has very limited dedicated parking facilities for a stadium its size. A large percentage of attendees at Packers games park in the surrounding neighborhoods. Additionally, Green Bay has nowhere near the public transit infrastructure that St. Paul has.

You're missing my point. The article is saying that MnDOT and Met Council think more people will drive than what the team is estimating. This is likely done in effort for the team to build more parking. I'm saying Lambeau Field is an example with very little structured parking and can handle the traffic of a major sporting event.

To be fair, the very first event at a 64,000-seat stadium isn't necessarily indicative of what the norm would be like at a future 20,000-seat stadium. But now I'm starting to sound like MNdible.

The UPDC task force had just the same concerns about light rail access and congestion. It was assumed (hinted by planners) that plaza space north of the stadium (approx. where Mc Ds is) would handle EB passenger queues, and Fry street would be closed to handle WB queues, keeping platforms and crossings controlled. Simply having the directional stations separated should alleviate some of the congestion. That said, the scaled back 'opening day' scenario does not include the plaza adjacent to University, so, unknown what Metro transit now has planned. Wait for your train with a Big Mac?

Per the article linked to above, Metro Transit estimated that 13,700 people arrived by transit for the soccer match. I arrived by bus, and it's not clear if I'm counted in those numbers or if it's LRT only.

Planners claim that 45% of the 21,600 attendees will arrive by transit at the MN-FC Stadium. That's 9,720.

There are also a whole number of other factors which will make crushload LRT operations at Snelling and University much much worse than at the Vikings Stadium.

I understand the stadium may also have climate controlled bicycle valet. And in other news, the SP city council just approved the last hurdle for the stadium area development. Just waiting on the legislature...

Article basically concludes that prep work could still go forward at the site and not much time lost on the construction completion (more than was already lost when May session resulted in no bill), assuming tax bill gets passed next year. The wait continues...

Is this what it looked like after a Vikings game at the Dome? It would have been similar crowd sizes for their games, right?

No Green Line for the dome, but Target Field usually had ~20,000 fans.

Looks like some cost-cutting as well as general refinement/improvement. Unless they're adding seats elsewhere, the capacity is decreased without the full bowl.
