Eden Prairie - General Topics
Re: Eden Prairie - General Topics
Winnebago will officially move its HQ to eden prarie
Re: Eden Prairie - General Topics
My understanding is that this is a change in name only -- no new employees, etc.
Re: Eden Prairie - General Topics
The article states that since opening in Eden Prairie in 2016 they now have a headcount of 100 folks. The article states there wouldn't be any job lost in Iowa. They will likely see growth in Eden Prairie over time.My understanding is that this is a change in name only -- no new employees, etc.
Re: Eden Prairie - General Topics
Yes it really is just an address change today but I would assume any future growth on the office side will be in MN.

Re: Eden Prairie - General Topics
Sounds like they hired a Minnesota based CEO and he eventually did what all CEOs do; move the company headquarters closer to his house.
This is probably the upshot of it. This makes future growth in MN more likely for the company and makes it more likely that subsequent CEOs will also be based in the Twin Cities. Interestingly, Forest City is just about equidistant between Minneapolis and Des Moines, so it's not that strange.Yes it really is just an address change today but I would assume any future growth on the office side will be in MN.

The Golden Triangle station area has a proposal for 425 units, 2 building, 5-6 stories. Basically right on the west side of the LRT station.

575 parking stalls.
In my opinion, that's way too many for a development on an LRT line. Eden Prairie should ask them to cut it to one per unit.

I was going to saw 2/3 at most.
Re: Eden Prairie - General Topics
Considering it's not in a walkable area and most residents are going to have at least one car per unit, it's a reasonable number. Being near the rail line may help for things like commuting, but not for everyday stuff.575 parking stalls.

Yeah, light rail is going to be so convenient to them that they can take it when they go to visit their friends in Shakopee or to haul a weeks worth of groceries home from the store. No need for every unit to have a car as long as it's on light rail.Considering it's not in a walkable area and most residents are going to have at least one car per unit, it's a reasonable number. The UNFI campus (former SuperValu HQ) on Bryant Lake will be on the market.

UNFI says they will have a new modern office for Twin Cities staff elsewhere.

Re: Eden Prairie - General Topics
Shutterfly/Lifetouch decided it was a better idea to tear down 1 of the 2 buildings on their campus and turn it into greenspace than trying to lease it out. They give the reason that there wasn't enough parking to sublease it, but the idea of tearing down a 20 year old building seems grim for the commercial real estate market. Tearing down the building was approved in December 2021 but was just torn down recently.

Re: Eden Prairie - General Topics
I'm looking at Hennepin County aerial photos and I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry at the fact that the second building was added later (between 2002 and 2004) and now it's being torn down (assuming it's the eastern building). Whether it's the real estate market, lack of parking (there's a sea of parking in front of those buildings), or something else, this is an absolute waste.
Re: Eden Prairie - General Topics
I won't be able to find the article now, but I read the other reason that they're tearing it down is that it wasn't a typical office layout that would be easily leasable. It was designed for some specific type of production work that technology has since made obsolete.
Still a waste.

I have a good friend who used to work for Lifetouch, and this sounds 100% in keeping with the overall (in)competency of their management. It was designed for some specific type of production work that technology has since made obsolete.
Still a waste.
Re: Eden Prairie - General Topics
Sure, but digital technology has literally revolutionized their industry in a way I'm not sure even the most competent management team could have predicted, and Shutterfly's business model is very different from Lifetouch. So...
