Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Well we have the largest movable doors!
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I think the sliding doors on the cowboys stadium are much taller. Why they say the vikes stadium has the largest doors is beyond me.

Because they're the largest glass pivoting doors in the world.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Pivoting, not sliding. I see! How clever of them...
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Our glass entrance facade looks to be about twice as big as Dallas though (even though the doors are a bit smaller). Isn’t it pretty much the biggest glass entryway on the planet?
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
The lift for the second piece of the main truss has begun.
EDIT: They appear to be setting it back down. Maybe something isn't quite right with the rigging.

It's it's like an giant sized erector set.

If you squint just a bit, you can already see a beer-fueled Viking fan climbing that truss.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
watching these mega pieces of steel coming together is fascinating. but i'm a construction nerd.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

Whether we like it or not, the 1% hold most every one and every thing at their discretion.
Money Talks.
I just hope this investment continues to benefit downtown Minneapolis and the Metro overall.
It's certainly not perfect, it's certainly not ideal. But then, life isn't either.

Wow, it's pretty sad to read such a factual and concise recap showing what tools we are.The Grey Lady exposing how big of rubes us bumpkins are here in Minnesnowta.

Yes, it's a smash and grab economy controlled by the billionaire class for their own benefit. But your comment implies acceptance. If we accept a scam-based economy as 'the way things are' then we've lost our democracy. It's the American way: Scam or Be Scammed. Period.

The one thing the plutocrats fear is folks getting together and standing up for interests. Yet, instead we bicker among ourselves...
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Beyond the subtle peeing-in-mouth references, the below passage is pretty important, I think. As much as I agree with the fervent anti-stadium folks on principle, I think this sums up the reality of the situation and why I ultimately supported it. Unfortunately, as articles like this one show, the financing is turning out to be even worse than originally thought.
The mayor at the time, R. T. Rybak, and the construction labor unions convinced a resistant City Council to sign off. Rybak once campaigned in opposition to stadiums. The economics of public stadiums are terrible, he told me this week.
His change of heart was born of realpolitik. A stadium was going to get built somewhere, in the suburbs or the city, and it was going to require a heaping platter of public coin. It would also create thousands of jobs.
“We could play offense or defense,” Rybak said. “I chose offense and I got more than a billion dollars of development downtown where there were only parking lots. I’ll defend that any day.”

I'm glad it's where it is rather than Arden Hills, but I'd rather we weren't building it. So I can respect Rybak's pragmatism in making sure that it got built where it was, since he knew it was going to happen one way or the other.
