Can’t believe this isn’t its own topic yet!

Check out a great article about a highway removal project in Syracuse, New York. A great overview of racism’s role in building highways, and how tearing them down could repeat the same mistakes if it’s not done right:

Jesus, people will just attach "racsim" to literally anything now. If we tear them down now we got the gentrification folks all up in a tizzy.

Did you read the article? The actual information from the reporter had a lot of good context and discussion. It is not cut and dry and they make that clear.

Edit: They make clear that highway construction was VERY racist (most of the first half of the article), but highway removal is more complicated.

There's plenty of evidence that urban freeways were through black communities on purpose all across the country. How is that not racist?

Also, racism really is everywhere.
