Since Mpls has recently made progress with riverfront development, thought I'd share where Nashville wants to go.

Nashville's startup growth is now ranked fifth in the country, behind D.C., Austin, San Jose, and Columbus:

I knew it had a good startup scene, but didn't realize it was that strong. Between the cultural offerings and the lower cost of living, I can understand the appeal.

Nashville's mayor announcing a $5+ billion transit plan for the region:
http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/20 ... 759973001/

Plan includes a bunch of light rail, a 1.8 mile/3-station bus+LRT tunnel through downtown, BRT routes, upping bus frequencies, and more. It'd be paid for through a sales tax along with increase taxes on car rentals/hotels as well as their business excise tax. They'll temper the sales tax increase's impact on low income residents with free/reduced-fares.

It's interesting to see the mayor leading the charge on this, though it's important to remember that the city is over 500 square miles in size (~10x Minneapolis proper), and their Metro Council basically serves Davidson County (which is almost entirely Nashville).

I saw that, but they only polled a small amount of people, and I think based on looking through it leans conservative for their news stories.

Just returned from a trip to Nashville after not being there for 5 years. WOW!!!! They have a few stick built apartment complexes going up, but the amount of midrise and high rises going up is absolutely insane for a city this size. The old skyline is completely taken over by the new towers downtown. And they just keep building!! There must honestly be 20 high rises going up just in downtown right now. It is insane.

And they rejected a mass transit plan, and their roads are all ready clogged.....
