Re: Westminster Church
Looks like work is done and the new addition opens this Sunday.

Anyone care to wander over and take some outdoor shots of the addition and how it fits in to the street? It feels like the gallery slideshow from the Strib is mostly interior.

My bus passes by this every day (well, for the few weeks they were on Nicollet again). I really like the look of it. It feels welcoming and a big improvement over the office building that was there.

Yup, always an improvement tearing down small towers and putting up 1.5 floor buildings. Maybe we should do this more often hun?My bus passes by this every day (well, for the few weeks they were on Nicollet again). I really like the look of it. I think it's really nice. High density? No, but it really frames the Mall nicely. I like to have tall buildings and quality lower ones as well to open up spaces.

Re: Westminster Church
Absolutely. If someone proposed tearing down City Center and replacing it with a beautiful, celebrity architect designed tower half as tall, I wouldn't mourn the lost floors, I'd celebrate the replacement of mediocrity with value.I like to have tall buildings and quality lower ones as well to open up spaces.
I see something similar here.

Southwest Journal has a write up with good outdoor images.

Looks like the affordable housing component is coming later?

...Like tearing down City Center to build a big beautiful gas station with the biggest most softest towels in the restrooms? We do need more restrooms downtown. #progressAbsolutely. Re: Westminster Church
No, more like exactly what I said and nothing like your intentional misreading.
Sorry, we're not all height fetishists here.

Re: Westminster Church
This project continues to be terrible and an outrage. They tore down affordable housing and left it a parking lot for a few years. Then they tour down office space that was in use. That you might think the new building looks nice does not make up for the fact that they've added yet more dead space to what's supposed to be our main active area in downtown. And replaced productive uses with parking and lightly-used institutional space. It's bad.
Also, that metal bit looks a Gehry knockoff and already looks dated.

Re: Westminster Church
Don't worry, they were just trying to make sure the other sides of the block had something as hideous and anti-urban as the metal fence along 12th St.
Re: Westminster Church
But it's a pretty metal fence!

Re: Westminster Church
Remember when this project was sold by telling the city they would also build affordable housing?
Anyway, the new forest on Marquette is looking nice.
