Still just a big hole right now, but the older building next door is actually getting gussied up which is pretty awesome!

Love that the other building is being renovated. I always loved old nord'east. For while there - was quite a hotbed of activity with new stores, etc. moving in. Hopefully will pick up again.

There are still shops popping up every once in a while. Noodles took over part of Bibelot's space, the Panera closed and two businesses opened there (Jimmy John's and New Bohemia), Mill City Running only opened this past summer, and the building where Wilde Roast used to be has two fairly new stores (An e-cigarette smoking room of some sort and Rusty Taco).

It's definitely a great neighborhood and it's only getting better (of course maybe I'm a bit biased...it's my neighborhood  )

They're up to the first floor of stick. This building is really going to fill out the neighborhood.

? The first pic is of the structure going up, the second is the adjacent building undergoing rehab as the exterior was in pretty rough shape. Correct me if I'm wrong, Nick.

I drove by this tonight while checking out some potential places (had to waste some time with showings on our current place - getting so close to moving...). It's easy to see how this and the Superior Plating site (without even seeing a rendering yet) could transform the area in a positive way.

You're right about the second photo being the renovation next door.

I live a few blocks east of here and drive/walk/bike right past this nearly every day. It's absolutely transformative for the area. It really pulls development further up East Hennepin and should provide some good retail. With this area's odd intersections and abandoned/crumbling buildings, it sometimes feels like a few block walk to the business node is much farther than it actually is. I hope this will help.

Hopefully it will lead to the redevelopment of the adjacent block across Central (Holiday Station, White Castle, et al.) That block really looks bad.

Well, what's going on with this building? I feel like there's been a rendering on the side of it forever but nothing has come of it.

I kind of thought it was a stalled/dead project and I've sticken it from my master list of projects in the pipeline (or at least when I had that list, which is now gone).

That's really too bad. It could make some kick ass loft apartment conversion in a pretty cool neighborhood! I lived in Marcy Holmes years ago and loved it!

Finishing the 3rd floor. Those top 3 floors will really stand out on this short block.

I was just thinking about how a couple of years ago the Red Stag wanted to sell this parking lot to Holiday so they could build a bigger gas station across the street from their current location.

The neighborhood somehow felt that would undermine the area's walkability and shot down the gas station plan.

Sometimes it feels like development is a take-it-or leave it proposition. We were coming out of a real estate recession at the time, and there wasn't any construction in the neighborhood, so it was hard to be picky. Yet only a short while later the Red20 proposal came along that fills out the corner lot and will add great urban density. A gas station here would have made the neighborhood feel suburbanized for decades to come.

I guess the nimbys did us a favor on this one.
