"Minn's project is within two historic districts, including the St. Anthony Falls Historic District and the East Side Milling Railroad Corridor Historic District. The building will have a rooftop deck, a solar system and a business center, and Minn said that he hopes to attract people who work downtown and at the University of Minnesota who might want to walk to work. The project is only a block to the Stone Arch Bridge, a former railroad crossing that links southeast Minneapolis to downtown."

Looks like he is hoping to break ground in July and open early 2013.

Here is a link to the project page:

Email from Lupe Development:
Hello,

We are excited about the project and also feel that it will be a great addition to the neighborhood. The project is scheduled to be in the ground within 30-45 days or so. Thank you for the support.

The design is a little bit different from the rest of the herd in a good way. I think marketing to people who are working with moderate incomes is great because these are the people who keep the city stable.

It's my #2 or #3 favorite project right now. I think it seemlessly ties a modern look with the historic nature of the neighborhood -- I really love it!

Also, Does anyone know what 'Low Income' is for renting units like this? I might be just impoverished enough to live somewhere like that ;D

They were approved for some Tax free bonds a few days ago:

520 2nd St SE Housing Project: Approve resolution giving final approval of up to $7,500,000 in Tax Exempt Multi-Family Housing Entitlement Revenue Bonds.

Should I mark this one as "Approved" then?

This was 'approved' several months ago. I didn't realize they were still working on financing.

There's a big hole in the ground now. How is this going to affect the soap factory and other building on the corner?

They're not going anywhere.

I'm curious as to whether or not they could get rid of the WD Forbes building on the corner (not that I want it to go anywhere). I know it is part of the Heritage Preservation list, so they probably couldn't get rid of it even if someone wanted. It is also an active business, so there is that too.

Also, here's what this block will look like when these three project are completed:

That's really hard to read.....what's the darker orange again? I see that 520 is part of the upper-right light beige area, and A-Mill Lofts is the lower-right region.

If you click on the image you can see the original sized image on Flickr, but the lower right is Mill and Main, the left side is A Mill stuffs.
